was great. The course was 100 miles
lon g and the speed averag es were 18, 20
and 24 mph.
There was one bottleneck abou t 80
miles out - a stream crossing with a
short, le ft-angle d climb up the stream
bank. However, this place snared only a
few of the B and C riders. A big problem
for the later rid ers was the fact that
many of the arrows attached to low
bushes had disappeared by the time the
C's came through. This resulted in a lot
of missed turns and lost time. There was
some misplaced ribbon between checks
four and five which detoured a few
riders alsp. How it go t there is a
mystery, this trail to no wh ere p etered
out in a cle ar in g on a ridgeside and
kn oc ked m any a man off his minute. _
Otherwise , thee nd uro was super well
organi zed. The checkers were efficient.

Glenn Toplif~ of San Leandro used a
Bonar calculator to dial himself in to a
tie with John Clark for the overall at
one point apiece . No word at this
writing 'of th e results of the tie -breaker.
