The A riders began at eight on a warm, sunny morning a morning so fine that you could leave your Belstaff jacket in the van and style it in that old sweat shirt that hasn 't been washed since '70. The last .o f the C riders left by 11 and the enduro was on. Now th at District 36 special breakfast for full throttlers really counted . . . that bag o f Fri tos and bottle of co ld Luc ky 's beer really' rode well on the stomach as the rider cranked down the trail, leaping over ro ck and log. The fun began as the arrows led down a creek, weaving back and forth, in and out of the water. This slippery, stony . route dropped a few and watered a few others out of the ride. Some lost it on the rocky uphills. But there was plenty of good fire road so that you could get back on your minute if you really pushed. In fact there was so much fire road that a few A riders called the 49 'er an easy enduro. But most people
