World Mini GP Myerscough By Rick Lutz VALENCIA, CAL., APRIL 9 -10-1 I Billed as the -World 'Champ ion ship Mini Grand Prix, the event shared the Dunes with a speedway go cart "National", a three and four. wheel Dirt Sp rin t Championship, the Supemationals for Bicycle Motocross and a $1500 Bicentennial MX for the larger bikes. Re ceiving high billing on the Mini GP agenda w as th e Ra ce of Ch ampions, in which th e to p twelve minicycle riders from the vario us Min icycle Asso ciat io ns would be matched up on identical bikes to decide the number on e Champion of the min i mo to set. Th e ac t ivit ies began Friday mo rni ng with regi stration an d te chnical in spe ct ion, and as th e 13 00 plus entries filled the parking are as, nam es lik e Myerscough , Ward, Dee, Murphy and Whittin g be gan to fill the entry list. Besides the enormous ride r entry th e press pass list began to bu lge. Almost monthly perio di cal was e very represen te d as were the lo cal n ews media. Also on hand was a filmin g crew from CBS Sports Spectacular, Starting out bright and early Saturday morning t he thirty-five cl events started. With' only a few del ay for the watering truck t o m ake laps an o t he r t rack re st o rin g effo rt s th morning ac t ivi ties ran quite smoot hly Af ter a lunch break the rid ers wer e bac at it , and again th e activities lasted unti th e twilight hours. While the bikes we running under the ligh ts the Go Ka sp eedway ra ces were a lso running . an o th er p art of the Park, and th e th re and four wh eel Dirt Sprints were bein ru n in another se ction. ~ Sunday morning be gan with th co n cl usio n o f the second a nd t hir _ ro unds of moros, plus the run-off 'moto for so me of the bulging classes (Left ) Min i mota madness shook Indian Dunes with 1,300 young racers.
