BARSTOW, CAL., MARCH 14 -e CRC 's annual Candy Ass Enduro Team Challenge has turned into quite an affair. Nineteen teams entered this year in quest of the Riders looking for Bel-Ray products... Each club en tel'S up to fifteen riders with the ten best scores counted. Each club minute started five riders with the club minutes spread out throughout the first sixty starting numbers. Last year's winners, the Training Wheels M/C, entered two teams ' totaling 30 riders who wanted to compete for the giant trophy. Over 1200 riders entered for a very good turnout. The enduro started off at 8 a.m. on a somewhat easy first loop. The first check was off a minute , but was easily adjusted when ' cards were scored. There were 30 zeroes for the one loop only riders, which meant a good score at the tiebreaker would be critical. Young Jeff McNeely lost zero seconds at the tiebreaker, edging out Trace Willis who dropped one second. The second loop wasn't overly difficult but fast in sections. No one zeroed the course, but many came pretty close. The tiebreaker was the first check, located approximately 4.5 miles into the loop, at a brisk 24 mph average. The chec k following in a 21 mph average section had everyone late. If any rider could have m ade the chec k, he would have won the enduro no matter what he did at the tiebreaker. Tight sandwashes and twisty trails made it tough to maintain the average but it was really fun. The second loop was just under 30 miles long and the final check was located in a sandwash about three miles from the finish in a slow twelve mph section. The check ,had to be thrown out due to an inaccurate clock which had CRC Chief Jerry McNeal pulling his .hair out in frustration. All the teams had finished the enduro, but they weren't quite done yet. CRC added a five mile special test to be run by each team. Their time was counted' when the tenth rider came through the finish. Three rocky, sn arly uphills gave the riders all they co uld cope with.
