when Baker jumped out in the lead and
held it all the way .
Perhaps the most thrilling rac e of the
day was staged by th e 250cc Experts.
Once off the line and so rted out, there
was no change in position am on g the
leaders, with John Pittman (Bul) leading
and Matt Carothers (Yam) following at
a comfortable distance until th e closing
laps, when Carothers made his charge.
He got a wheel inside Pittman on the
turns several times but was unable to
complete ' the pass. The last . lap saw
Carothers making a final effort on the
inside coming into the fm ish straight
and both r iders crossin g the line side by
side with Pittman getting the nod by the
barest margin.,

Husky moun led Jim Lesniewski
looked 10 be well on th e way to victory
in t he 125 Expert class until just a few
lap s fro m t he co mpletion of the final
moto. Lesniewski had won the intial
race over AI Hall (Hon) and Rick
Woodson (Suz) , but slid o UI. AI Hall
an d Woodson fo ug h t for the lead , bu t
th is time Woodson hung on to win as
AI's pip e vib ra te d off his m achine wi th
just o ne h alf lap remainin g, Hall barely
he ld off a desperat e charge by
Lesniewski to get sec o nd by a few
inch es. All riders , Woodson, Hall and
Lesnieski, tied with four points ap iece
with th e overall goi ng 10 Woodson.
Dave Longcor was long go ne in the
250 Expert opening moto as Dou~
Fuller (Suz) and Mit ch DeVaughn (Suz)
trailed . the Bultaco ac e. DeVaughn
pass ed Fuller for second as Ernie
Sullivan (Ka\)') and Husky mounted Eric
McK enna joined the battle for number
Iwo .an d three. Longcor, with a large
lead, took the win with McKenna
second followed by DeVaughn , after an
impressive ride. '
Pat Wilson go t t he next holeshot as
he led' Longcor , Kevin Hen ry (Bul ) and
Sul livan for half a lap until crashing.
