In 125 Pro racing By Steve Torpey D&G's Brae Glover smoked the field. Bill Rubly held off Factory Suzuki's Danny LaPorte long enough to take two straight mota wins in the 250s and Wheelsmith's J o n Derhammer (Mai) chalked up an easy victory in the Open Pro division. • At the st art of ' the first 125 mota Broc Glover flew out with a great holesho t o n Marty Miller (Han), Mark Tyer (D&G) and Bruce McDougal (T&M). Suzuki's Billy " Sugar Bear" Grossi wasted little time in making his way through the pack and moving into second behind Glover. Billy's teammate Danny LaPorte fo llowed in third just ahead of Tyer. Jerry Rayner (Yam) rounded out the top five as the checkers dropped. In the seco n d mota Glover was again out front t hro ugho u t the entire mo ta. After a poor first m o ta sh owing Suz uki's . Ron Turner was giving Danny LaPorte a good run for his . second overall money , Meanwhile, Mark Tyer held a strong fourth over Grossi. Bill Rubly grabbed top money in the 250 pro race after smoking the first mo ta and went for a pe rfect score after Danny LaPorte overshot a tum and dropped back to second. Mark Tyer grabbed up two thirds after Grossi dropped out of t he race with bike MOORPARK, CAL., MAR, 7 Paul and Perry MeIlilo ' used the horsepower of their big Honda 750 (not to mention their riding ability) to outdistance a field of 13 sidecars at the Simi Valley MC D-37 . MX bash today. As the gate dropped on t h e ' fi r s t m o to , the team of Palfreyman/Gardner grabbed the lead .fo llo wed closely by the. Mellilo Bros. The tw o teams quickly p ulled out a comfortable lead over the third ·p lace lightweight hack of Holland/Harris and diced until the last lap when the Mellilos zapped by on the big uphill for the win. In the second mota the Mellilos turned up the wick and powered to a runaway wire-to -wire win . The Palfreyman/Gardner·Norton/Wasp · was _ holding on to a secure second but a flat tire dropped them to ninth. Skeets Ho lland and George Harris continued to amaze everybody with their homebuilt Yamaha 360 which they took to second overall beating out eight heavyweights in the process. Bob Sanner, Sr . and Bill Turner turned in two co nsis tent rides o n their Casey 's Cy cle Repair Norton for third ove rall. • Results in Res ults Section .
