Shreveport, Louisiana's Freddie Spencer sliced through the field from a fourth row start to nail down the I25cc GP championship. In an all- Yamaha show, Russell Davis and Craig Morris took turns in the lead before Spencer took over. Davis ended up second and Palm etto , Florida 's Stephen Reynolds took third . Dave Emde took the 250cc GP trop hy back to California to add to his 250cc Daytona Amateur trophy of las t year. Emde took a quick lead and stretched it o ut for a very convincing victory . Mike Baldwin registered his third second p lace finish of the day over Robert Bur ton. In the tightest duel of the race, Mitch Landry nipped William Ki mmelsbach for fourth . After three heartbreaking secondplace fin ishes, Baldwin slipped by Jerry Wood to clinch the 350cc GP title.
