After four lap s of battling with Florida's fastest rider, Burgett crashed his works Yamaha and got running again in fourth place. Hannah took over the lead fro m McCoy, then Stackable got by as well. Burgett got smoking again after his crash and caugh t ba ck up to pass Stackable for second. Then Hannah let Burgett on by to take over the lead again. Stackable's ch an ce at winning the series was allover when he dropped his Su zuki in the sand and lost a whole lap getting it restarted. Burgett took the moto win ahead of Hannah, McCoy, Gary Chaplin, Fran Summey, Barry Higgins and Stackable, Team Yamaha's strategy was to have Burgett finish in front of Hannah during the second moto as well, which would still give Hannah enough points to win the series overall, while also moving Bwgett to second in the series ahead of Stackable, The plan almost backfired as St ackable pulled off with the lead and Bob Hannah found himself in the difficult situation of having to go slow enough to keep teammate Burgett in second place and holding off the attacks of Monte McCoy who was right behind. The problem was Burgett had become sick from some bad food he had eaten during in termission and was having an almost impossible time riding. They held -off Monte righ t up to the last lap , but then Burgett crashed and lost half a lap, losing an y chance of a Yamaha 1·2 sweep of the Open class in the series . Steve Stackable smoothly took his Su zuki to the win in the final moto over Hannah, McCo y, Chaplin Higgins, Gratton and Bur gett, bu t Bob Hannah 's second place easily gave him the overall win and t he series. For 19·year old Bob Hannah from Whittier, California his Flo rida series triumph served notice of more to co me. • Results 2 S0 cc : 1. Tony D iStefano 2·1 (Suz) . 2. Danny LaPorte 7-2 (Suz). 3.
