Third place Gary Pettis wo rked his way around Jack Lan gston to ro un d ou t the field and it earned him a tra nsfer to Amateur when he co up led it with a photo fini sh on the hal f-mil e over Denny Aguirre. The Open Expe rt Hal f Mile was the Pace Mak er Special. The featured pl ayers were Eddie Lawso n, Dave Lujan and Mike Ti dw ell. Some fantas tic riding ensued wi th so me n ear m isses but when it was allover it was Lawson all the way with Dave second and Mike third . Tidwell wo n four but th e Ch allengers are gaining in forc e and are really applying the pressure. Duane Gallagher, in the 125 Expert, went so far as to lead Mike on the half-mile and it too k the last tum on the last lap for Mike to get his chance and pick up the win, Joe Steffen was the fly in Mike's ointment in the 250 Expert classes with Amateur Mike Allen third on the short track. Mr. Allen had Amateurs to run with on the half-mile and got his win over Gordon Loar and Wade Marshall. Mitch Zehner is following in his brother's footsteps and he picked up both the short track and half-mile 250 Novice wins. Mitch comes from behind for his victories, for what you might call doing it the hard way. Rob Selvy took a good fall in the semi but finished second on the short track and third on the half-mile, trading places with Chris Choisser. Mike Paulson re covered from a good 'knock the wind out of you' crash, which gave Terry Singleton the win on the short track, to come back and run away from Paul Smith and Shawn Pettis on the half-mile.
