CAL. ,JAN. 25 Richard Sin g took the 100cc Expert trophy lead ing wire to wire but not without a fight fro m Suzuk i-moun ted Shan non Amaral. Amaral challe nged Sin g o n th ree separate occasions but lost the battle at the chec kers . Mike Garrison (Ya m) too k third. The I 75 -200cc J un io r class saw David Morris (Bul) and Bryan Gosen (Ya m) battle for th e lead with Brad Helton (Yam) coming up fast in third. There were less than two bike lengths separating each position . Morris. ho wever, rode an almost flawless race and took the flag with a smile. The always exciting 250cc Expert class was a surprise as Gary Clark (Suz) took t he w in with fly in g co lo rs. It was a ro ug h o ne without the cushio n o f his seat which he lost on lap t hree . Scott Podergo is (Suz ) was close behind with Jim Birk le (Ya m ) in th e th ird . • SVS revive Plymouth MX By Moto Depo PLYMO UTH . CAL.,JAN. 25 Plym outh Raceway has been one o f the cen ters o f NorCaI l\!X for man y years. Th e Hangtown Nationals are run her e, plu s numero us District 36 and Cl\IC po int ra ces. As has bee n happening in othe r areas of t he co untry, noise pollutio n is abo ut to pu t an end to Plymou th Raceway . It isn ' t th e races th at th e town o f Plymo uth is unhappy with , b ut the un controlled p it ridin g and unauthorized riding outs ide of the raceway grounds. The tr ack was at first though t to be dangerous. There were a number of places wh ere riders were go ing down. but as it turned out the lap speeds were not very fast and there were no serious injuries. J im Lesniewski was the man to beat in the 125 and 250 Expert ra ces, as he took home top money on his Husk y in the 125 class and his Bul in th e 250 class. He did have a challenge fro m Kevin Henry (Bul) in the 250 class, b ut a crash put Kevin o u t of co nten t io n . Top money winner in the Open Expert class was Gary Murphy (llus) . showing tha t stamina was the wa y to 20 win, as he cam e from behind in bo t h motos to win co nvincingly.
