Unofficial that Mike results indicate Bru mbelow, a C ride r, was the overall winner for two-loopers, ze ro ing the course and losing on ly three sec onds at the tie-bre aker. Bob Lembi and Cindy Houghton tied for the over all .win for one-loopers, both zeroing everyth ing. Starting at 7:31, r iders took o ff into the rising sun for th e eas y first loop. - Running east across flat land, the 18 mph average was sedate. The loop crossed several roads and the URA posted flagmen at the possibly busy ones and mar ked ev ery other one. A few riders raced the course but most everyone else kept a pace equalling the posted speed. Once the early riders had kicked up the dust, there was nothing to dissipate it save gravity. Riding on the 40th minute was like riding blind, but as the riders sp read '.'ut towards the end of the 27.5-mile loop, things were a li ttle better. There were a few moderate rises aro u nd t he 10-mile mark, with a rocky trail down th e flip side o f o ne rise . On o ne of th e m ore boring sec tio ns URA posted a sign that reminded entran ts not to pick t heir noses. The second check, about 17 miles out, was the tic-break er for the one-loopers. Then it was flat trail all the way to the fmish , with a coup le of very sharp ro ad cro ssing thro wn in for fun. T he clock a t the fini sh was a m inute ea rly and U RA adju ste d t he score s ac co rdingly. Alo ng with the tw o-way tie fo r first, th ree riders tied for seco nd; Pat Fiedke, Mk hell e Keast and Bab e Wh itn ey. After a 40·minu te break, the ' tw o-looper s to o k off hea de d so uth, circl ed aro u nd the To rt ois Preserv e and th en found their way in to the Rand Mounta ins for - sorne ridge-running. At the 18 .2-mile mark, riders funneled into a ro cky canyon with a 6 mph average. The averages were kicked back up to 18 an d 24 mph and t he course wound down to Koehn Dry Lake before heading for open country riding. Disa ppearing back in to the tight stuff, it was a 24 mph race to the fmis h. Following Brumbelow in the tally were A r ider J.T . Clar k and B rider Doug Clark. They lost ei ght seconds each at the tie-breaker, which was the finis h ch eck. Ed Howell and Perry Keast tied for fo urth with 10 seconds lost. 12 riders zeroed the loop. _ Th e res ul ts are unoffi cials pending investigation o f sus p icio us-looking ca rds tu rned in by t wo riders.
