For some reason Tyer didn't show for the second moto. Brad Morrison (Mai) led for a few laps and then settled back in to the pack, allowing Tim Battenschlag to pull in to the lead. John Petty and Kevin Crawford swapped second place back and forth for awhile, Petty finally pulled away fo r second at the finish. • Results in Results Section. Reid, Tripes &Jennings end CMC 1975 By Mike Yada , CARLSBAD, CAL., DEC. 28 The final CMC race of 1975 proved to be as exciting as the year's past events. Marty Smith ran into bad luck while leading the final moto of the 125 Pro class, giving up the win to FMF's Warren Reid. Marty Tripes invaded CMC with his stand-up style and took the 250 Pro class win with a last-lap rush to get by Robert Elliot and spoiled the Suzuki rider's recent hot-streak. Meanwhile, Jeff Jennings has also acquired a new ride and put a smile on Suzuki's face by sweeping the 500 Pro class. Four Suzukis came around the first turn together, as Robert Elliot, Jeff Jennings, Gary Ogden, and Ron Turner led the pack in the opening lap of the first 250 Pro moto. Marty Tripes (Bul) got around Turner in the second comer to break up the Suzuki monopoly. Turner dropped out when teammate Danny LaPorte landed on Ron going up the uphill banking, ending their short dice. Jeff Jennings RM began to run a bit sour, as he had to DNF due to a speck of dirt lodged in the RM's carbo That Little Je ff Ward moved berms o n h is way t o f irst 100 Expert. allowed Tripes to break awa y a fter getting by quick running Ogden. Elliot pulled out a big lead over Tripes, as Marty toured the tr ack in his casual st yle. Danny LaPorte opened the doors for the second moto , leading Chuck Lunde (Mai) and Tripes. Elliot got off to a poor start, while T ripes put pressure on L aPor te after getting by Lunde on the second lap . LaPorte was able to hold off the Bultaco ace fo r a few laps, but T ripes soon shot pas t hi m in the back sec tio n. Elliot quickly broke into the top ten and began to pick off riders right and left until he found himself in second. Tripes waved Elliot by but Marty stayed close behind, waiting ou t the outcome. Elliot couldn't break away, as Tripes stayed right on his fender through out the moto.Tt all boiled down to the final lap. Tripes tried to move past Elliot around the Wall, bu t Elliot shut him out of the next comer. Elliot had the gas on hard, as Tripes made another attempt at the lead, this time getting by at the top of the uphill. Bob Wharton (Hus) rode consistently all day. coming out with third overall tor hls elforts. MarK Rodman (Yam stayed ahead of Dale Anderson (Suz to take fourth. Both Gary Ogden and Danny LaPorte ran into bad luck in the final moto, making it a somewhat bad day for Suzuki. • I Muff misshifts while Rouse cleans house By Mike Yada CARLSBAD, CAL.,JAN. 4 Chuck Rouse, smooth and consistent. and Rouse to run away with the first moto win , but was deducted a full lap for the slight offense. That left Rouse in full command of the 250 class, while Craig Adams sho t away from Hazard to nail down the 500 win. Nelson held off Stewart for more than half the rnoto, until Stewart finally got by. Sieve " Muff" Montague (Mai) got off to a rotten start, wringing out his big 250 Maico in neutral on the line. Montague worked rap idl y through traffic to finally end up second behind Rouse at the first moto 's finish, The second moto started much like the first, only this time, Montague got off in third behind Szeuber and John Hildreth (Yam). Szeuber let off slightly letting Muff by on the ruth lap. Rouse started in seventh spot, but soon moved up on Szeuber for second, getting him on the sixth lap at the top of the uphill. , Ro Use steadily worked towards Montague , putting pressure on the Maico rider for top spot. Chuck made his move on the eighth lap over the dropoff. Rouse cranked it on around the finish comer, shutting out Montague from the fast line. From there, it was pull-away time for Chuck, as he pu t a str;lig!'away lead on Montague. Greg Blackwell led the 500 Pros for most o f the second moto until he hit the fence in a three-bike crash which began as a chain toss from Szeuber. Craig Adams inherited the lead, and was never challenged. Jack Hazard took second overall, while Allen Hunter (CZ) took third. Dana Nelson had pulled away from Stewart, but a costly slide-out in the score tower chute gave the win away to Stewart in the 125 Pro class . • Results in Results Section. Beautiful blue California skies welcomed the AMC riders to a brand new year as Craig Adams, Chuck Rouse, and Gerald Stewart raked in the first Pro wins of the AMC season at Carlsbad. The moonscape uphill put a lid on the lap times, but the rest of the track stayed moist from an overnight soaking. The Pro classes all took off in moto one, with the 250s getting off the IJrSt gate , while the combined class of 500s/125s went off on the second. Cycle Stop 's Jeff Szeuber put his Mono out front in the opening lap of the first moto, but DNF'd only two laps into the race. Kevin Crawford (BuI) took up the lead from there, with Tim Daily (Bul) and Chuck Rouse (Hus) in hot pursuit. Meanwhile, the 500s and 125s got out of the box with Craig Adams (KTM) dialing in the lead and Jack Hazard (Suz), Dana Nelson (Yam) and Gerald Stewart (Yam ) cruised close behind. Greg Blackwell (Hus) was well ahead of the rest of the 500s, since he took off in the wrong gate. Blackwell soon got around Crawford Nine down, one to go at Canyon Raceway By Larry Owen PHOENIX, AZ ., DEC . 28 Sunday was the ninth running of the "Super Ten" series at Canyon and it 's getting down to the nitty gritty fo r the leaders. Approximately 225 racers competed in all classes. The action started with the 100 Amateurs/Novices on a split start. Mark Miller (Suz) fought it o ut with Steve Yarbrough (Yam) through the first mota.
