Gruner was the only man still in close pursuit of Tibblin by the end of the second loop. The home checkers recorded Gary Moon in third at that point with Claude Maynard being challenged by Bo yd Taylor for fourth . Tibblin fmished the third and final lo op at 1250 with Gruner in at 1255. Claude Maynard arrived at 1258. Fourth place Boyd Taylor, a Ifi-year-old Amateur, was the first medium weight finisher among the heavies. Next man was the Open class Expert Paul Nachant, Mike Hensel came in as winner of t he 25 0 Expert class ri di ng a Harley-Davidson not of the FLH- 12 00 variety. Seventeenth man in, n umber 203T, won the Open N ovice class. • I I Elliott bests Jennings at CMC Carlsbad By Mike Yada CARLSBAD,CAL,DEC14 After placing second behind Honda's new rocket, Don Kudalski, in the 25 0 Support show of the American MX Finals on Saturday, Jeff Jennings couldn't get it together to topple Robert Elliot o n a new Suzuki for the 250 Pro gold in CMC action. John Tessitore and Ron Turner had a tremendous battle going in the 125s, with Tessitore snatching it during the final moto as Turner ran out o f steam in his hard charge. Mike Sixberry sh owed the w ay ar o und the rai n-soaked course by taking car e of the 500 Pros as the CMCers head on in the ' 76 poin ts race. The 50 0 Pro s got t he da y o ff to an early start as Mik e Sixberry and his RM Su zu ki le ft ev eryo ne behind. J e ff Borden (Mai) fr om Wes tminster Cycl es hel d fast to second in t he firs t mo to , ah ead of Curtis Lessel (Suz) . Tamietti soon fo und himself back in fo urth as T opham did a strange endo over the d ro p-o ff when his Bu l's forks snapped in half. J ennings ducked Elli ot's roost for a few laps, bu t soon decided to m ak e a p ass, knifing under and then ar o und the outside of Elliot as the p air sailed down the score tower chu te. Up on completion o f the second lap, Elliot had regained to p spo t, but this time wit h Jennings o n h is tail.
