All evening riders had been havin g troubles with the starting methods of Ro y Dayton. Many riders lost their cool with Roy at the start of this one. Robin Hill and Big John Grant were sent to the penalty lin e for creeping. After two restarts Grant lost his cool. Wheels were creeep ing, clutches were coo king. and Grant blew up, pushed his bike to the front of the - line and blocked the race. After lots of yelling and screaming the race finally got underway. Greg Ferguso n took the hassles with a grain of sal t and also the number o ne spot in the race. Grant, who should have rec eived an Oscar for his performance. rode (or creeped] all the way up from the penalty line to take second. • By Lynne Diltz ROSEB URG , ORE., NOV. 23 Stadium motocross got o ff to a shaky start in Southern Oregon as the Cross Country Riders host ed th e first meet at th e Dou glas County Fairgrounds a t Roseburg. The ti ght tr ac k was a different ex pe rienc e for the Southern Oregon riders, wh o are us ed to natural terrain, bu t it didn't tak e them long to ge t th e right combination. Chris Washburn flew o u t in th e seco nd division of I25s and wip ed ou t in the first sharp righ r, He mad e up time, a fter learning the hard wa y , and finished fourth. When t he seco nd moto was w aved off, Washburn was in fron t with Clay Watson and Randy Wing and it looked like a h air-raising moto until Wing and Watson colli ded. Washburn flat moved, lapping the last man after only four times around. Wing tried a comeback but lost a ch ain , and Watson had to be taken for medical aide, to repair a nasty gash in ' his arm. H. Spencer UVERMORE, CAL., NOV. 22 It was the last Blue Point race for the D-36 1975 season and Mike Marquez picked up most of the points in the Expert ranks after a win in each moto of 125 Experts. The eight points acquired moved him up from the bottom of the list and into the top 10. . Marquez came fro m the middle of the pac k in both motos to win over Mike Hersman w ho led the middle lapsofthe second moto . Bob Gerfert slipped behind the point count of Jeff Watts for fourth .and Mike Preston picked up some points for a little lower Blue Plate for nex t year. Hlebo captures top D-36scrambles spot By Ann Carr CENTRAL VALLEY, CAL NOV. 29-30 Since J anuary o f this year John Hlebo, Kim J orgensen, Duane Spence, and J eff Eide have battled for District 36 's Number One scrambles spot. This weekend, when the suspense was supposed to be over at La Grange , these two yo ung men ended up in a de ad tie after 11 months of racing. The tie was broken by counting wins and Hlebo was declared Nu mber One on the basis of 19 wins to J orgy's 16. In addition to the top spot tie, three other dead heats developed after a year's racing. Steve Parker aced out Dennis Spence for BP 11 and Matt Carothers topped Duane Yarrow for BP_I5 (These two went down to number of seconds) . and Ascot Pro Alex Jorgensen slipp d by ' Mitch Davidson for BP 20 (6 wins to 3). •
