Harper was doing his best to hold off the her d as Han nah was di cing with Zhart. One tim e Zhart put th e pass on Hannah but Han nah was gonna h ave no n e 0 f that and wen t on to re-pass Zhart and then took Holcomb as well , and built up a fair lead of ab o ut six bike lengths. Holcomb now moved u p , passed Harper, but at no time was th ere any big separations between the top five riders. At the finish line it was Han nah, Holcomb, Zhart, Harper and Wright. An ything couId nap pen in the second moto because there were just too many go od riders who had still had not been heard from , such as Rex Staten o n his factory Harley and Mike Sixberry who had trouble in the first moto. At the drop of the flag it was again Harper out in the lead but this time Hannah was close behind. Next came Zhart, then Sixberry and Wright. On lap four, Sixberry and Wright were goi ng bar-to-bar with t hat elbow-in-t he-rib st u ff and Sixberry did a slide out. At the hal f-way point it was Hannah being pushed pretty hard by Zhar t , Wright had m oved up to third and looked like h e migh t b e chal lenging the leaders, but th en he had t ro uble lap p in g a slower rider and Mark Whit e go t by o n t he n ext-to -last lap . Final resu lts showe d Hannah to be t he o verall winner with Zhart second, Wrigh t third an d Will Ha rper fou rt h . At the drop of th e 500 Pro flag, Mike Sixberry jumped into the lead and was really movin g it out then he came over a ju mp and his grip on his bars p ulled off. The bike we nt totally side-ways, th en did a tremendous endo which knocked him out for about 15 mi nutes. But he did get up, walk away and would be ready for the next mo t o . At that point Dave Haugh too k over t he lead o n his Maico followed closely by Bill Ru bly (Mai ). Then came the very fast Sherman Schneller on a Su zuki. Rubly was really moving o ut smooth, Randy Berkeley was starting to move through th e pack and at the finish line he had moved up to second. At the finish, it was Rubly, Berkeley, Schneller and Haugh for the top four spots. Sch neller mo ved up to t he top spo t and too k th e checke re d flag ; Randy Ber keley had moved t hrough the p ack Jr.o m fou rth spot and t o o k second, Hannah ca me back in t he 125 clas s, t h is time d o ing b at tl e with Mark Ga mbetta o n a Sambos' sponsored Ho n da. Gambetta led for the first half o n t he fir st mo to, Han nah, who had been pressuring hi m all the wa y, was ab le to use some lapped riders t o slow Gambetta and slide by for th e moto win. Warren Reid was third. Reid took the second mo ta holeshot, Gambetta and Hannah mo ved u p together, getting by Reid on the eighth lap . A lap later, Hannah sq ueezed past for the lead , pull ing two bike-lengths by the finish. Gambe t ta again took second, Reid also did a repe a t in third. • Topham wins twice at Moreno By Gus SUN NYM EAD , CA L., DEC . 7 Ray T opham , rid ing a set o f Budda Bult acos, went hom e with the biggest cash sha re, winni ng the 250 and Op en Pro classes. Williams was ab le to ho ld o n to second, and Richard Braga passed Keit h Patten in the closing lap s to take th ird. For the first tim e, 100 and 125cc mach in es were invited. In their race, Larry Carter came suddenly from fift h to p ass the lead er, Dennis Par ks. On the white flag lap, Carter slid out, letting Parks by for the win. Ken Harayda moved into second, followed by J immy Morgan. Carter came back in the 250 Main but lost by a narrow margin t o Morgan (also back fro m th e 125 wars) . Ray Jones tal lied a th ird . The last race of the evening went to J on Se llers, who dominated the Op en class. Rand Barnes nailed down sec ond ahead of Butch Beard. • Blose, Crawford win 'Super 10' MX By Larry Owen PHO ENI X, A RIZ ., DEC. 7 Over 320 of Arizona's best riders were on hand for the six th race of the " Su per 10" serie s being hel d at "berm heaven" Can yon Racewa y. Running the track backwar ds added to the overall challenge (no t excluding Suicide Hill) for the part icip an ts . Of the many exciting, close races run, th e 125 Expert class (wi th a field of 18) was one of the best. Ch appy Blose (Hon) pulled the holeshot with Yuma rider Jimmy Wright (Hon ] in sec ond . Ch appy faded with mechanical problems and Bob Whar to n on a box stock Yamaha slice d his way th rough th e crowd in to the lead and stayed th ere, foll owed closely by Bo b Blo se (Hon) . Wright held third wi th Dave Cra w ford (Hon) being pushed by J ohn Imbriale (Hus) for fourth . Bob Blose's bike qui t on the last lap , moving everyo ne up a position. Second mo to was Dave Crawford (Ho n) wire-t o-wire with Chappy Blose (Ho n) in second. Wright (Ho n) held down t hird, fo llowed by Bob Blose (Hon) an d J ohn Imbriale (Hus).
