Aztec is a super fast sandy course. Even though the temperature was low. most of the riders were hot. Especially Arlo Englund (Kaw) who cleaned up in both Open motos, The first moto saw Gary Glasenapp give Arlo a good run and then, just as happened at Berthoud a few weeks ago ; a flat tire ended his bid. Jack Todd was around to take up the slack and Arlo kept it on the gas fo r a first in this heat. In the second moto Wild Bill Ferneyhough got the scra tch and off he went only to lose fire after the sweeper . and had to park it. Meanwhile back on the track, things were warming up a bit as Arlo Englund too k the lead with Glasenapp giving .him a repeat of the first act. This time Gary's tire did not let him down and he kept the pressure up the whole 30 minutes. It was Arlo's day as he didn't mak e a mistake and rode flawlessly for another win and the State Championship-, The 250 Support motos wer e top caliber also as the cold weather must eame back to win the Support class as well. have inspired the talent to test their endurance. Arlo Englund rode this one - also with th e same results. First in both motos with Albert Firestine staying on his rear wheel for at least half the moto before Arlo pulled away. For a while it was a three man race for second with Firestine, Jim Wicks and Richard Oostoll just seconds apart. The event was very well run with the classes lining up and getting off the lin e on time in each case. With only one restart and no one hauled away in the . bone wagon it 's the least you could ask for. • Results in Results Section. Houston doubles Cen-Tex MX By Gary Hansen CAMERON, TEX., NOV. 16 Youthful Yamaha pilot Chuck Houston swept to victory in two classes on the wide open Cen-Tex Motocross Park course. Houston ran away with the 250 and Open Junior classes to upset a .field that included Jerald Moszee (Yam ) and Ronnie Lovell, who placed first Novice. In the 125 Junior class Greg Jones (Suz) took the win over the Honda and Yamaha of Nick Cordova and Bill Rouse. The Mini class saw the Houston family continue their winning ways wi t h Bucky and Brett go ing XR to YZ all the way. Bucky Houston took the overall with a last lap pass. • Wheeless lashes Lockhart Experts By DeWitt Henderson LOCKHART, TEX. , NOV. 23 Mark "Marty" Wheeless beserkedhis trick YZ 125 Mono to take the fast 125 Expert class in one o f the wildest and wooliest races Southwest Motocross Park has ever seen. Rick Reed (Hon) of San Antonio pulled a fantastic holeshot to lead the 125 Experts into the lust comer, followed by a pack including Henry Evans (Hon) , Derry Gardner (Yam). David Daniels (Yam) and Spencer Clauss (Yam ) of Seguin. Mark Wheeless began his fantastic ride starting from dead last. Within five laps, Wheeless had overtaken a flying David Daniels, who had inherited the lead after Henry Evan s crashed. Once Wheeless was past him, Daniels tried furiously to regain the lead. and hung onto him for two laps. Then on the last lap, a few comers from the finish, Daniels cut inside of Wheeless going into a berm. Wheeless and Daniels tangled bars and Wheeless dumped it right in front of Daniels. Wheeless got up and took off, but b y this time Daniels had backed up and gone around him. Daniels had a Io-foot lead and victory in hand, but he cras h ed in to t he fence.
