Local hotline by for the "trials races" and for the five lucky winners of the turkeys, it was a super neat trial in perfect fall weather. The eight ATA clubs now consolidate their efforts for their biggest trial of the year, - the prestigious "EI Trial de Espana" at Saddleback on December 14. Due to the centralized location of Saddleback and its rough terrain, this trial should again draw close to 300 riders from all over the U.S. • Results in Results Section. bagging 14th overall, as the smaller bikes seemed to show that the course had been made for them alone. • Resul ts in Results Section. Johnston broke his swingarm bolt on loop three, repaired that, and went on to encounter more difficulties and DN F'ed, Heinze lost his swingarm bolt on loop four, took time out for repairs, and finished third in class. Picking up the lead on loop five was Ted Nowak (12:' Yam) , Lee took over on the sixth. and Nowak finished fourth overall. Also running steadily for a second overall was John Lawson (125 Hon). The course was challenging for the faster riders, as proven by Ken Heil (250 Bul) who collapsed from fatigue after taking · third overall; but was also competitive for the less-experienced as 15 year old Mike Price (125 Yam] rode to seventh overall. The course was laid out by the Red Dots MC for MDRA, covering some of the more famous Ponderosa roads and sandwashes. Luck held out as the beautiful day was marred only by wind and dust the last five minutes of the event. Antelope Valley R.E.A.C.T. did a fantastic job with communications and rescue, as usual. Lee Fabry (125 Yam) and Randy Devonshire (125 CoAl finished unusually far back in third and fourth in class, as they had just returned from the Baja 1000 and were riding on borrowed bikes and strength. Cliff Charman (125 Suz) took . his Be~nner class, Louis Burrows (125 Yam) rabbing second. Joe Jesseph (100 Hod swept his class, You'd have thought it was the first run of the year instead of the last, the way the riders were getting off in practice. but once they started racing the crashes were few. , In the Novice-Junior Mini class the rate of DNF's was very high. Gene Jenkins and John Murphy never got to first base and Pete Hames who got a second in the first mo to had a rod · let go and was forced to watch the survivors. Todd Brown (Yam) won the three straight. The Expert Minis were a gas. They were all "pie plate Experts" (all nine of 'em) and we hope they all sign up for District cards next year. Winner Bob Garabedian (Yam) won the first 'roun d, got a fourth in the third and second in the last. Second plate man David Dove (Yam) , who bears the name "Mudturtle" on his leathers, got an eighth first round, then got his show on the road for two IU'Sts. Mixing it right up with them was Dale Dugger (Hon) with a second and two thirds and Gene Brown (Yam) with a third, a second, and a fourth. The kind of racing that's fun to do and fun to watch. . Gordie Kidd took the 125 Junior class with two IU'Sts and an almost disastrous fifth place as he nursed his ailing b ike home. In the first moto he and Wayne Rainey (Ho n ) looked like they were having a super time. Gordie was even doing wheelies but Wayne finally fell off, leaving Paul McPherson and Danny Perkins to get the flag ahead of him. It was the usual Sunday Expert battle in the 125 war. Doug Nicol was back out after his broken leg but those forced layoffs hurt. It was Mike Tidwell's day with three straight and Charlie Summers second three times out but that doesn't tell of the fierce competition for those spots by Steve Woskoski, Doug and Dave De'Temple. On the second moto Summers really had to work to get Woskoski. Third moto TIdwell nearly The 250 Novi ces keep a well-formed order going into the first tum at San dak's 0-37 scr ambles fin ale. ...
