Also in th e first round it was Bo nnie T ruett ove r J oe Smith. Th at was one of t he strangest races ever run. What hap pe ned is st ill ki nd of a myst er y . All we know is t hey st aged at the ligh ts and every t hing was alright. 'They t ook off down t he track and things were still go ing go od . All of a su dden J oe Smith's bike st arted to slow, b ut so did Bonnie Truett's. They had made it almo st halfwa y down the st rip. The rest 0 f the ra ce was done dead engine , As th ey coasted toward s the fini sh the st ands were goi ng nu ts. Bonnie Truett crossed th e line first, with a 25 seco nd ET. That is a new world 's record. The slowest speed ever to win a top fuel event. His trap sp eed was to o slow to register o n th e mac hine. The two that survived the sem i fin als we re T .C. Christenson and Mari on Owen s. All the Harley freaks were screaming for Marion, while the rest of the fans ro o ted for T. C. On ce agai n, as in the last fo ur meets, T .C.
