Second mota , Bryar Holcomb grabbed second b ehind Sixberry, leaving Haugh in th ird. Overall, Dave 'still held second ahead of Holcomb. In the 250 Pros, both motos were car b on copies. Don Hansen (Mai) topped J on Miller's Su zuki, with Will Harper (Mai) takin g third . Bobby J ones and his Hacienda Honda had a clear shot at the 125 Experts, winning both motos, Second went to Andy Jannings (Han ) who edged out Gary Huber on a Cole Brothers ' Su zuki. • Results in Results Section, Fulton, Colford Bul-lish at Elsinore By Andi Gangewer ELSINORE, CAL., OCT. 18 A big group of 125 Amateurs were out to challenge J im Spiegle, the high-point trophy winner in the 125 class. Speigle, 16, from Ocean side, took off in first and held the lead to take the first mota checkered. Hemet's Robbie Loomis was second followed closely by Gary Smith. Mota two was a complete change in every position but firs t which went again to Speigle. Second was Brad Woo ten and third went to Randy Throne ab oard a YZ. As the third m ot a was too ro lled aro und, Spe igle, confident and Donald Acker (Han) took . advantage of the situation and won. Speigle was held to seco nd and Throne was third. Speigle still wound up first overall. Acker was second and Throne third. Bryan Thibodeau (Yam) and Wayne Pollack (Bul), were the first two transfers from heat one of the 250 Novice race to the main. In the second heat , Bill Fulton (Bul) an d Ray Porter (Oss) transferred. The semis wo ul d -see " . Ji m Speigle survived a dose of o verconfidence, and wo n t he 125 Amateur class at Elsinore. ~ 42 Tom Earle, t he one in t he Halloween clown suit, put it to the 125 J un iors all three m ot os at CMC Irwindale. the first two riders across the line go to the main. Ed Wine and No . 58, a mysterio us , unkn o wn rider, were the first lucky twosome , fro m semi one . Steve Carter an d Ray Porter were the last to transfer. As the main finally was called to the line, it was fast Bill Fulto n wh o was off and leading. Bill wheeled his Bul around the track like a pro, but Porter wasn't far behind. As the checkered fell , it was Fulton, Porter and Thibodeau, the winning trio out of the big 18·man class . Bultaco's had the advantage in the special Novice class . The first heat went to Steve Colford. Stan Walker - o n a Suzuki - took the flag in the second heat. Bo th riders went directly to the main. Fulton came back to win the semi. The special class rolled to the starting line. Mack stood waiting till all were ready, and bang, the y were off. Off the line and first to the first turn was Colford and his 25 0 Bul . No t far behind was Fulton and his 250 Bu!. All the riders were we ll spread out and as the checkered fell , it was Colford, Fulton and Ed Wine. • Resu lts in Res ults Section. Vidic, Lawrence keep streaks By Jon Hayt IRWINDALE, CAL., OCT. 24 Jeff Vidic hasn 't lost a night since the Night Nationals over two man ths ago. Jeff rode his Maico to his eighth 250 Pro vict ory in a row and has lost very few motos in doing so . Mark Lawrence has also done some trick riding on his Yamaha by winning the 125 Pro class for t he second week in a row . Gary Denton (Ha n ) started out the night in his usual style by getting the holeshot and keeping his lead over Lawrence to win the first mota . The second 125 mota had a slight change of pace as Pat Nash (KG) and Ed Cla rk (Ha n) got off th e line first and had the lead u n til Nash went down and took Clark with him . Lawrence had been holding back and then saw his chance to get the lead an d took adv antage of it. He rode hard to keep a charging Don Bongiorno (Ha n) back , Dave Taylor made a comeback in the last mota as he finally decided to get down to business on his new Yamaha. Taylor got the holeshot and led the pack for the entire race with Lawrence working his wa y to second and the overall win . The cro wd went wild as the first 250 Pro mota got underway and Bill Rubly (C·A) got the holeshot. Vidic was quickly p assed by Val Tamietti (Mai). Rubly rode smoothly and to o k the win . Vidi c got ba ck into the swing of things on th e next mota by ge tt~ g the holeshot and th en running away fro m the p ack. The race of the night was the final 250 Pro race as Vidic an d Rubly came out of the gate together and as they rounded the first turn Rubly go t by Vidi c, Jeff didn 't go for this kind of action and hounded Rubly until he got by af ter th e Bert 's jump. After th at , Vidi c soon was lon g go ne from the pack an d won with out a figh t . Rubly took second pl ace and ad ded some m or e points o n to his CMC lead . T he 50 0 class was Luk e Messer 's show as h e wo n the last two motos and took home th e gold . Jeff Jennings (Bul) co uldn't get by Luke's Maico and h ad to settle with second overall for the nigh t. Val Tamietti wins Pumpkin Class By Jon Hayt IRWINDALE , CAL., OCT. 31 For the first time in almost a year, "Rocket Rex" Staten decided to make an appearance at the CMC Irwindale night races. Staten ro de a brand new RM250 borrowed from Mike Spellman. Rex 's only comment was "it sure is neat." Jeff Vidic (Mai) seemed a bit excited as he knew that his eight-week wi nning st reak was going to be challenged. To the crowd's surprise, Val Tamietti on a Maico was the o ne to do the defeating. Val has had a fairly consistent season at Irwindale , usual ly finishing in the top three every week, and when he decides to get down to business th ere is no stopping him. Tamie tti di d a good imitation of Jeff Vidic as he got the holeshot with Vidic right on his tail. Vidic crashed on the first lap an d Val ran away with the lead. Jeff Jennings (Bul) made his way into second and stayed there until his Bul broke. Rocket Rex, having started second to last, worked his way up to second pl ace and started to give Val a run for his money. Tamietti showed his speed and stayed ahead of the many cross ups right behind. The last two 250 races saw J eff Vidic get it together and do his usual. Vidic got the holeshot on both races and ne ver got passed. The "Rocket" finally got over his bad starts in the last race and gave Jeff a bit of work out. T amietti finished one-two-three for the night. David Taylor is finally getting his act back together as he is getting used to his new YZ Yamaha. Dave was a consistent winner at the end of th e summer and slac ked off until he got hi s new ride. He swept th e 125 Pro class with three first s and the un con tested ove rall for th e night. Ed Clark was also co nsisten t as he rode his Honda to three seco nd pla ce finishes as he just co uld n 't get by the lightning fa st .Tay lo r. •
