Non-mild riding Bill Femeyhough served notice to one and all, under sunny Colorado skies, that his wide open baz o oka riding style will not hold him back in his quest to be the st ate's number one 25 0 rider. In both mo t o s Bill was pressed by Gary Glasenapp on his Bul. In the first mo to Bill didn't m ake an y mistakes to take the checkered flag . In the second, the track had been watered just before the second moto and the Co lorado hard pac k became Colorado slick . Femeyhough went dead in the slippery stu ff into the sweeper which let Glasenapp by t o take a seve n second lead , Befor e the lap was over Bill had caugh t up an d m ad e his pass o n t he back sect ion of the trac k. They swapped the lead th ree tim es before Glase napp's t ire we nt flat and that was all the yo ung " mild man " fro m Co lorado Springs needed for the overall. To Glasenapp's credit he ran a super race and half of that on a fla t tire. He still rode it out to take a second in this rno t o. The su p port class saw plenty of action as J ack Todd took both mot os, It was the o ld story, however, as Stacy Smith got excellent holeshots in both motos only to tire halfway through. All in all for this co rre spo nd en t, who had never been to a motocross in Colorado, saw good , clean, hard racing. Being used to covering the wet Pacific Northwest, makes for a little difference when the sun stays o u t all day. • Res ults in Res ults Se ction. A com mon sight during much of the first half were riders digging m ud fro m between t heir fenders an d ti res so things could roll . As ti me neared for the big o ne s to go, excitement rose because Gary Chandler and Tom Hairston had some new equipment to unveil. Hairston had exchanged his 75 0 twin Triumph for a 1000cc T rium ph triple and Chan dler had his 900cc Ho nda four finished. Hairston took advantage of the fact that he co u ld ride his in both the 1500 and exhibition classes but Chandler saved his for the exhibition and rode his 750 Triu mp h in the 1500.
