; -~ IIIlI Don Breese (Yam) won both 125 J unior motos. In the first moto Peter Mattila (Suz) struggled h is way through a section which was slightly off camber and slightly uphill. Rounding the turn at the top h e gave a little left handed victory wave and promptly splattered himself full length on the track. Bill Kent (Yam ) found a better line. It was close beside the track for the most part that went clear up into the pits at one point. The general consensus was he 'd carried it too far. The Pros slithered and fell and broke just like everyone else. Kurt Schrner (Hon) and Ti m Brewer (Suz) became the 125 and Open Pro survivors respectively. Steve Smail (Yam) was second in the 125 class . Despite the struggle, each time he came around his face lit up with a huge sm ile baring p earl y white teeth in a face full of mud. Th e su mme r serie s tro phi es were awarded today. Winners were: Billy Parker - Mini, Vin t Chancell or - 100; Gordon Clap p - 125 ; Lew is Swan 250; J im Newman - Open ; Barney Newman - Pr o. • • ~ t 10 COl ~ ~ ~ l-< ~ ..a 8 ~ ;> 0 Z -' , *CHENG SHIN TIRES * ROAD 350x18 Univ.... $14.53 GoodyeGr TIRES DIRT Carnegie marathon 400x18 Univ.... $17.90 By W. The same idea of two guys riding one bike over a closed course for two hours , but now, instead of tro phies or contingencies, green back was substituted. The only problem was that few people knew about it and the turnout was terrible. Brothers Harry and Jackie Bellicitti ran away with the little class that sported a grand total of fo ur bikes. They won by a wide margin of a couple of minutes over Jerry Berkowitz and Scott Reimers. Gary J acq ues DN F'd for third place. Not bad, paying three out of fo ur . There were 14 riders out fo r the $ 150 offered in t he Open class, including everyo ne fro m 20 1cc up. The slim field was chocked fu ll of super riders . In the few lap s of practice Van de rpoo l tu rn ed the fastest lap at 5 :53 wi th Davi s at 6, Jeff Col e at 6: 0 1 and Bob T urner at ' 6:02. The start was in the regu lar Trans·AMA area with an uphill sweep in g left ha nde r. Yother yelled go and the fracas was on. Up and around the corner charged Davis on the new RM250 with Cole and Vanderpool nip p ing at his h eels. The course traversed th e outside periphery, down through the trees to an access road that led back down toward the park. At the bottom of the road, a hard right put you on the main fire road leading to the outback and a superfast uphill. Vanderpool got by Cole as they started up the hill but he sustained a flat spot on the bottom of his rear tire. At the end of lap one it was Davis, Cole and Bill Hart. By lap seven Davis had opened the lea d to nearl y o ne and one haIf minu tes and Courtwright took over while Cole tired and gave it over to Terry Fish . Fish promptly hit something, bending the shifter, and Navarro and Turner got by closing the gap on the leader. On the ninth go-round, coming down the extremely long down h ill, Turner caugh t and passed t he two for th e lead but it was short lived . He had dro pped his spar k arrestor and was told to fix it or be disquali fied . The differen tia l for t he first three at th e finis h line was about 15 seco nds. Davis took t he helm and in two laps had regain ed t he m inute lead . By th e end of 19 laps, he had two minu tes of leeway . A second stop by Turner to once again repair the arrestor cost him second, but he had nearly two minutes on Cole for third with Silva getting the second place and $75. • Results in Results Section ** Complete line of Cheng Shin & Goodyear tires & tubes, all at unbelievably low prices! $17.23 $21.73. $21.73 $13.91 CHENG SHIN TUBES 275/300x17 325/511 x18 350/400x18 450x18 $21.33 $28.42 $29.85 $23.41 $29.75 $31.78 $21.60 $28.64 $29.15 510x16 $28.50 510x16 Speed Grip W/W $36.50 425x18 .$2.19 $2.43 $2.71 $2.80 Speed Grip B/W All Traction $24.93 .'» " :",;':, f//' •, TEMPLAR SHOEI PREMIER -_J ".
