Inste a d of cold, wet rain the sun was j ust right. Altho ugh m ore p eople saw the top than last ti me. they had a hard time getting there. In the 10 0 cl ass Sunny H ol mes stirred u p the bees in his Kawasaki and with a liberal amount of p ush ing got his bike to the top in 13.56 seconds. He said before the climb that he really felt good when he beat Steve Hopkins from Kansas. Hopkins. his dad. Bob. and his brother. Jim. came to Texas from Kansas and really did things up right. Steve took second 100 and third in the 200 class on his Kawasakis. Bob and Jim took first in the 350 (Kaw) and Mini Mini classes. The class with the most surprises was the 350 class. Following after Bob Hopkins' first place time of 8.09 seconds were J ohnny Newman. Bill Van Kleef and Jackie Bean on Hondas, Gary Chandler had everyo ne ' on pins and needles after hi s last run in the 500 class on h is Husky. He set a ti me o f 6. 98 to tie Will Alford for top time. After Will b ombed ou t in t he 15 00 class on his Triumph. Gary had a go od c h ance of k eeping it.
