The last thing anyo ne tho ugh t the
Red Bud Track and T rail course
wo uld be was a bike breake r. The
natu ral terrain track was mu ddy;
that was for sure. For th e fourth
race In the 1975 Trans -Avl A
Series it was also cold with
temperatures in th e forties , but
close to five thousand spectators came
o u t to see an American almost win .
At the end o f th e second mota it was
Ro ger DeC os ter, for the second week in
a row, who rode his yello w works RM
370 Su zuki in t o winner's circle. Three
Americans led Ro ger in pain ts go ing
into the second mota , but the reigning
500cc World Champion in creased his
points lead in th e Series by th e time the
final mo to was ov er. To ny DiStefano.
Jim Pomeroy and Brad Lackey all had a
sh o t at the win, on ly t o lose sight of it
through m echan ical breakup caused by
a tr ack that was rougher than it loo ked.
Fo r Tony DiStefano, the firs t mo to
was the reigning 25 0cc National
Champio n's chance to prove that he
real ly could ride the big Su zuki as fast
as everyone suspected. In fact , he rode
it even faster then any one tho ught
possible as he ran aw ay with the first
moto , never letting his lead ge t less than
23 seconds over Jim Pomeroy , who was
behind him in seco nd place . Tony's
ra ceday ended in the seco nd m o t o when
th e tr ack tore every sp oke o ut o f his
re ar wheel.
.
For J im Po mero y, it was another bad
week. After winning the o pen ing round
o f th e Trans-AMA a t Ro ad Atl anta,J im
has been in co n t en tio n fo r the win at
every one o f the foll owing eve n ts as
well,

DeCoster . in po in ts th is we ek fo r t he
overall win. b ut Roger had a be tter
finis h in th e fin al moto , wh ich gave the
win to the Belgian rock eteer. Broken
sp o kes in the re ar wheel of J im's
Bultaco force d him to ride easy to finish
the second moto , o th erwise Bim bo
mi ght have taken th e win himself.
Then there 's Brad Lackey. He has yet
to win a Trans-A.\I A and w ants t o very
badl y. Despite a blown air fork seal
d u ring th e first lap of t he first moto,
Brad . b attled almost all the way with
Pomeroy and then still managed to
finish t h e mo to in third pl ace ah ea d of
DeC o st er. No t wanting 10 ta ke any
with the track break in g
chances
so me th ing o n h is Hu sky's su spension
again during th e fin al mota, Brad
backed off h is sp eed to fini sh fou rth.
Playing it safe sti ll gave him third

Su rvivin g all the carn age of broken
wheels and suspensio n Was Ro ger
DeCost er, but not by m uch . When he
pulled in aft er winnin g the sec ond
moto , there were four spokes alrea d y
go ne from his rear w heel. Spokes arc
like do minoes, wh en on e goes sna p th e
rest so o n foll ow. What saved Roger was
h is smooth, always in-con tro l sty le
whi ch puts as lillie strain as possible o n
. his bike. Wha t di d in To ny, Jim and
Brad was their har d chargi ng.
