Huge white clouds marched across the sky and big Luke Messer (Mai) led the parade in th e opening laps of the first 50 0 Pro moto. Bob Max well (Bul) swooped d own on Messer and too k th e lead in three lap s. Gary Ogden and his RMj370 st arted in dead last, but getting by Messer in the hairpin, h e aim ed for Maxwell, catching him very rapidl y. Ogden to ok over the lead wh en Maxwell seized his big bore Bul and Messer re-inheritcd second spot. Messer got the knobbies rollin' in the seco nd mota , this time with Jeff Fo lan d (Pen) righ t behind. Ogden gassed his way past Foland wit h in the first lap , and zappe d Messer on th e nex t lar> for t he lead. Dale Ander so n (Hus) ch allenged Ogden for th e lea d . Gary held on an d too k th e overall, followe d by Messer with a two-four sco re. Dale Anderson tallied up third, despite a wobbly fr o n t wh eel. Maxwell gave Ogd en a run in the secon d rnoto , but a flat front tire slowed him "fro m con tinuing t he dice. Terry "Tuna" T urner of CRT grabbed th e holesh ot in the firs t 250 Pro go, but a wobbly rear whe el t hrew him o ff th e p ace . Robert Elliot (Hus) took over th e lead , b ut J eff J ennings shot past just before th e dropo ff. Bill Rubly (C-A) and Scott Montgomery had a battle go ing for third. Scott nabbed Rubly wh en he slid out in the same spot Elliot had mad e his mistake. Rubly was off to a fast start in mota two with Mar t y Moat es (Suz ) and Turner right o n his fender. Mo at es soon be gan to fade due to an ailing rear shock. Ellio t and Jennings too k up wh ere they left off in t he first moto aft er get ti ng by both Rubly and T urner. J ennin gs held it on all the wa y to the flag, taking the overall. Cr-IC night racing st ar, Dave T aylor (Ho n) quickened the p ace by hol eshotting both 125 Pro moto s. Mike Ben soon broke his rod on his Elsie, dropping him from the money an d gave rapidl y approachin g Marty Moates (Suz) a sh ot at th e lead. John Sm ith (Suz) worked up to fourth, but a tossed chain gave him a DNF. -. Moates had the gas hooked up, but had to make u p a lot of room to ca tch up to Taylor. Moates moved up on T aylor, setting up for a pass j o b over the famed Carlsbad dropoff. Marty took the o utside on the jump, shu tting the door o n T ay lo r in th e finish co m er. Taylor pulled o ff his stunt again in the second, but his lead didn't last long as a face full of fork o il from a leaking fork cap left him finishing fourth for the mota. Moates won the overall an d • Glover snat ched second place cash. Results in Re su lt s Section.
