MalcolDl's Africa
By John Huene r
42
A few days after America's best known dirt rider returned from the wilds of Africa, we ran
into him with U.S . KT M distributor Ted Lapadakis, Malcolm Smith was in the process of adding the KTM line to his Riverside-based motorcycle shop. He was fresh from winning
the "Roof of Africa Rallve " while mounted on a 250 KTM. It was the first time he'd ever
ridden a KTM of any type and the first time in the history o f one of the world's toughest
off-road events that a mo torcycle had won overall. If Malcolm was lo o king for new worlds
t o conquer, he seemed to have found them. He re 's the way he te lls it.
