The local paper published a supplement listing all the mail entries. The riders and their crews adjusted well to some new restrictions on where to pit and on where you could tune y o ur bike. The local police were delighted at how smoothly things went. A group of Vietnamese who arc ' wor kin g in Cal City got a chance to watch their first desert race and they see med quite impressed. The 20-mile course included a lot ';f fireroad, some of it freshly cut an d, particularly around the , start area, diligently watered. There was so me virgi n trail and a rocky hill as well as the long pave ment section thro ugh town. A lo t of dust at the start created problems w hen some riders exceeded their visibility limits and p lowed into downed riders. In the past, Ro n Burpo has had proble ms with a section that goes through an old alkali lake bed getting terribly chewed up.
