Th e t wo loo ked more lik e r o a d racing p ros but did an exc ellen t job of con sisten t riding to take seco nd, two lap s up on the field. TIm Crossfield jumped in to th e third trophy spot teamed with old man Bill " O BE" O'Brien after Webster's partner h ad so m e trou ble o n the last lap . Mi k e Spren ge r ha d no tr ouble winni ng the one ho ur mini -marath on with Robbie Wes ter taking secon d in his very first time out fo r on e of these lo ng events. Tim West (Suz) surp rised the Op en cl ass with a holesh ot star t over J ac k Jensen and Frank Reisner wh ile Gary Vanderpool worked from the ba ck to get by Dave Kos s on the opening lap. Risner got by a crashing West with Koss moving up to sec ond over the Jensen Bul t aco on th e t h i r d lap when Vanderpool highsided off the rear wheel of Risner, inj uring his knee . Risner pitted and in the swoop Kos s had the lead for one lap . Scott Davis took the point for 10 laps until a pit stop put Silva in th e lead . Vanderpool tried to go back out and recoup a few lap s but the p ain got him while the Risne rs came back to hold second until l ap 31 a n d th en dep ar ted with undiagnosed ills. Mario Musto took h old of second for a few laps but dropped to finish eigh th while Davis failed to finish . At the end it was Silva/Navarro by two lap s with Danny Phillips the up and co m er for second over th e Hart/Koss e n t r y . Bill O'Brien and little TIm Crossfield also joined that club with fourth while the Mark & Bob Jensen (Bul ) also returned to the tro phy line. • Resul ts in Results Section. Cleveland Ohio 44104 Dunlaps season opener draws 300 By Sharon Green DUNLAP, CAL., SEPT. 14 The sprinkler system kept the dust to a minimum, although it did dry out at times, due to the extra hot day. 48 of the to p Pro ' riders in the state showed up, for the largest purse ever at a Dunlap race. The 12 5 Pro Class was a battle between th e Honda's and a lonely Ya maha. Pat Barnett (Hon), J im flowers (Hon), and Eric Harvey (Yam) , fought it out in the first moto to finish I, 2,3 respectively. In the second moto, the cards turned with, Harvey first, Scot Kar l (Hon) second, and Barnett third. flowers, with a bit of trouble , took a sixth p lace. Overall places went to Harvey, Barnett and flowers . The 250 Pro Class was a clean sweep by the Montesa troops. Milan Garrett won both motos easily with little co mpetition, even with Brian Jodry , Montesa sponsored, trying to ca tch Garrett in the second moto, Parry Klassen, another Montesa sponsored rider, beat out Jodry in the firs t moto, fell behind in the second to take a th ird overall. Bill Grossi (Suz), showed up for the Open Pro Race , winning his first mota in good form, didn't get an y part of th e money going out of moto two with b ike trouble. Jim Franklin (Hus) , took two ' go od seconds, for a first overall. Mik e Thurlow (Ho n ), riding his last Junior ra ce, easily won the 125 Junior Division 11 race . But Kevin Phillips (Bul), was probably the happiest of all riders. "In the same 12 5 Jr. ra ce , Kevin won hi s very first second pl ace tr op hy .
