Mike Hishiki won the Super Cafe race and could have taken
the Open Grand Prix as well; if he hadn 't run out of gas,

was so close n obody missed them.
Pat Beac om and his Z-l blasted
off the line and into th e lead o f
the Super Cafe race, with Mike
Hishiki (Hon 1000) tucked in his
draft. Mike shadowed Pat for seve ral
laps before passing him, but Pat for ced
his way around on the inside of tum
o ne on the next lap. Mike re-passed on
the long sweeper on the ba ck part o f th e
cours e, but Pat accelerated by him on
the straightaway . Mike regained th e le ad
in th e sweeper, but just as Pat started to
slin g-sho t by on the straight hi s
K aw asaki began sm o king he avily .
Hishiki cruised to th e win , by 25
seconds, while Beacom struggled to
finish only a few yards ahead of Lance
Weil (Laverda). Pierre de Roches (Kaw)
picked up $20 first place money from
Camber Company in the "new rid er"
Cafe class.
Lance Weil managed to find some
extra horsepower in his Laverda just in
time for the Open Producti on race. He
z appe d early leaders Lee Flemming
(Kaw ) and Hishiki mid-way through the
race. Hishiki, doing hi s best to cut back
on Weil 's lead, closed to within a few
feet on th e final lap as th ey lapped
slower rid ers.

Ba eder had won the sparsely
attended 250 GP Class earlier, aboard
his own water-cooled TZ-250, despite
gear-shifti n g problems.
