Bob Walker, a new face her e t hi s
season, took the 250 Amate u r win with
a real battle fo r second go ing down to
th e w i r e as Miles Web er fin ished
ha lf-a- w heel ahead of Jo n Hen ely .
Thirteen-year-ol d Bo bb y Smallwood
paraded his No . I p late in the 250
Expert class , taking an easy wi n in the
process. Tom Musser, p utting on a great
racing show, finished second and Larry
Carter came from fifth taking over for
th ird.
Dan Swisher, leading the 500 Main,
r etired with en gine trouble on the
fourth lap, leaving Tom Burcham open
to m ake his move from third position
for th e win. Dan Young t o ok second,
Steve Berg th ird.
J onnie Sell er s, with a comfortable
lead in th e Op en Amateur class, found
himself tank-slapping his way down the
back st rai ght , had t o lay it down on the
white flag lap. Sonny Crawley took th e
win, foll owed b y Gary Brodie and Rick
Sh ort.
Race of th e evenin g was in the Open
Expert Main as Tom Burcham did his
tr ick on a kn o c kin g, smoking piece of
borrowed m achinery. Bobby Smallwood
is still shaking his h ead in utter d isbelief
at havin g th e ra ce in his back pocket
only to be passed on the checkered flag
lap b y that strange piece of eq ui p ment.
