Plueger was first off the line with Doyle righ t behind and Reinhardt third. On lap three, Reinhardt passed Doyle took over second and on the last lap he zipped around Plueger just in time to take the win. Doyle shot over the jump and lost it just before th e finish line. Rob McEwen took over third, Doyle recovered in time to hold fourth spot transferring to the Main. As Beeson and Summers battled for the lead in the Main , Tidwell was pressing Reinhardt for third. The final outcome was Beeson , Su mrn e rs, Reinhardt and Tidwell in that order. Rich Plueger (Yam) was the number one man in mota one of the Open Expert class with Keith Moss (Yam) righ t behind. Moss wouldn't settle for second in the next mota, as he took off, headed for first and held it all the way. Ed Steffen (Yam) and David Reinhardt (Yam) were jostling for second with Steffen coming out on top. Moss won the last mota and the only trophy . Big Pro winners were given a run for the money, as Broc Gl over took the 1 OD's, Dave Carlson grabbed both the 125 and the 250, and Gary Ogden returned from his Superbowl injury to snatch the 500 win. In the first 125 Pro race Dave Carlson (Han), of T & M jumped to an early le ad, and appeared to be running away with it, until he slipped and fell , allowing Bro c Glover (Yam), of D & G to take the win. Dave got up in time to take second, while quic k Rick Bean (Han) pulled in third for the mota. Mota two saw Dave Carlson run away with it, as Glover crashed after passing Bean for second spot. Broc could only manage a fourth behind Carlson, Vince VanHook (Yam) and Mike Johnson (Yam). Mota three was all , Carlson 's, Glover grabbed second cash, while Van Hook took third overall. Ogden wired the first mota win by taking it from start to finish, . leaving Baron to fight it out with Mike Yorba (Mai) for second. Ogden held off Baron in the second mota, giving Gary the last mota advantage. Both were side by side through most of the corners, brilliantly executing passing and repassing techniques, it was quite a battle! Baron used the last comer for his pass job, heading for the checkered while lapping other riders, taking the outside to edge out Ogden, • Brae Glover hopped off of his 125 and onto his D & G Honda to take off in the next race, which he won without much trouble , although Bobby Reyes (Han) led the last mota to grab second overall, with Pete Hillebrecht (Han) taking third. Gary Ogden of Escondido Suzuki whipped into the lead of the first 250 Pro moto and led it to the flag, with Dave Carlson breathing down his neck all th e way. Mark Marinez (Mai) fo llowed the Can -Am and Maico aces in for third. It was almost a second mota replay in the last go-round as Carlson stretched au t an even longer lead in the final to take not only the 125, but also the 250 Pro class. Ogden took second, Marinez followed with a straight string of thirds. Experts put on a super show. Mike Foreman (Hus) took overall honors in the Open class with a fourth and a flI'SL Bob Haag put in 'the most impressive ride of the day, totally dominating the 250 Experts with wins in both motos, but the excitement was provided by Tamali Smith and Greg Youngblood constantly fighting for the number two and three spots in the 250 Expert class. 125 Expert John Smith (Suz) was putting it to 'em until tire and mechanical problems forced him to DNF in both motos, As it ended Nelson Whitehill (Yam) took the win in both motos with Ron Turner (C-A) hot on his tail at the end of each mota. The 100cc and Mini Expert class was dominated by Jeff Ward (Han) riding and winning both classes. There was not a large number of entries but the competition was fast and furious.
