Bad day at Plymouth! By Sallee Hilt on P LYMO UTH, CAL. , AUG_ 24 Sound like a title for a m ovie ? Well, the scrip t was written by a "dirty low-do wn sneak thief" who came in the night and stole the pump which was to be used to fill the water truc k. With about 300 rider s present, Fred Dion , p ro moter, tri ed to . get the p rogram goi ng in spite o f t he theft. Without a p um p , th e near est source of water wo uld be about 25 mil es away. He did locate a small (and s low) water pump, and also called Sacramento, 40 miles away, for another water truck and pump to be sent t o Plymo u th . Me anwhile, back at the track, practice was started-and dust conditions were intolerable. Due to excessive red eyes, clogged nasal passages and wiped out bores, about 30 percent of the riders scratched their en tr ies before the first race was underway. To the riders who stuck it o ut (and fo un d the tr ack whipped into shape and co ndi tio ns ideal for second motos) Dian o ffe rs his thanks f or their understanding. If anyo ne ca re s to turn in the name of the "dirty low-down sneak thief" it will be greatly appreci at ed, to the tune of a 550 rew ard fo r information leading to th e arrest and co nviction o f the culpr it. • Results in Results Section.
