By far the most co nsistent mini racers at Lodi this seas on were Sacramento 's Mike Johnson in the 60 class and Lodi's Sh awn Callahan in the 100 class. Mike was obviously psyched in the Main this evening after losing the heat to Chris Carr. Mike's bolt from the line in the Main , however, caught Chris sleeping and Mike we nt o n for a runaway victory and a shot at overall honors. Mike 's position was settled in the 100 Expert Main when Shawn Callahan could manage only a third place in a race marred by spills and restarts. Callahan came from fourth to third on the res tar t but could not get around the smooth riding of Phil • Kramer and Fred Winters. Resul ts in Results Section. Summertime Marathon Madness By W. H. Spencer FREl\ IONT, CAL., AUG. 10 Despite the heat of an un usual summer a fair turnout insp ired the Marathon Madness group. Some tremendous racin g climaxed a full day with Scott Davis dicin g all by himself against Wayne Morrell and Al Biscay for the entire Open Main event. Morrell (Pen ) led out th e 15-man field with Frank Risner in hot pursuit over Davis and Scott Webster on a lightweight. Risner had teamed with Gary Vanderpool for this event bu t im mediately had problems with his Pop Kenyon Honda and the two were sidelined with minor ills for nearly 30 minutes. This, and th ey still managed a sixth place finish. On the sixth lap, Davis took the lead and set a sco rching pace in the mid-80's heat that he someh ow kept up for th e 53 lap event. Morrell /Biscay finished on the same lap, a full five laps ahead of th ird. Minibiker Rick ~lo.ng had no trouble once again wmnmg the class o ver Mike Webb and J oe Rezendes. He managed a stop for liquid and th e firs t th ree were a lap up on last troph y place won by l\li ke "Killer" Kelly . Beeman Honda. Paul Glade loned it for the two hours on his _Red Line four stroke Honda. Pau l chased Clark on the first two laps passing him at one spot b ut the J immy Sisco /Boyd Henderso n Suzuki took over the point on lap four and led fo r eigh t laps . By lap 38 th e gas sto ps we re co mp lete and th e racin g settled b ack to no rmal except neato 250 MT Honda that was both fast and quiet. The 250 show was another John Silva special. He too k the lead just past the halfway point and glided his Can -Am to th e win wi th a new teammat e, Mike Callaway. TI,e start saw Bob Vickery take his Yamaha to the forefront but his gearbox wen t away. A giant cr owd was on hand to cheer on the 350 riders as they diced it out in two m otos . Yakima's Ron Pomeroy (Bul ) won two Pro classes going first past the flag in both 250 motos (31 riders) and the first Op en m oto of 18 riders. Th e last Op en moto o f the day was a rugge d one but Ron still pu t on a great ride. After a fair start he was ru nning fifth into the firs t turn bu t when the pack started to spre ad ou t he was last aro und. Af te r on e lap he had wo rked his way to sixth an d by lap two was in second.
