Mik e H ersman (Hon ) got the holeshot in the first 125 Expert moto but lost "h is lead to Robert Friedland (Yam) who stretched it out and took the win, Hersman held on to second. Third was juggled between Mitch DeVaughn (Yam ) and Eric McKenna (Hon ) until McKenna dropped out of the race after six laps. Hersman 's holeshot held in the second moto and he led all the way comfortably. Finishing second was De Vaughn , who had to do it the hard way after a sixth place start. Friedland finished third and David Ernst (Ho n) fourth. Husky-mounted Franklin brothers John and Jack made a good showing in the 250 Expert first moto with John grabbing the lead from the start and stretching it for a clean win and Jack finishing fourth. Between the brothers were Ted Rogers (Hus) and Mike Jennings (C-A ). Th e second moto Bob Myers (Mai) led and won with John Franklin coming in second but taking first overall. Myers' previous 12th gave him fourth paying spot. Jennings again in third at the flag got second place payback, and Ken Neese finishing fourth was out of the money with a 10th in the first moto, John Franklin also won the big money in the Open Expert class finishing one spot behind Casey Vail (Mai) in the first moto and one spot in front of him in the tiebreaking second run. The same sort of exchange went on between Mike Cates (Yam) and Terry Lee Hicks (Bul) for third and fourth spot, with Cates taking the money for . third. • Results in Results Section. Brandt, Hoffman, Johnson cop Lodi honors By Ann Carr r.om. CAL., AUG. 15 Expert Steve Brandt, Junior Sal Hoffman, and Mini Expert Mike Johnson copped top honors at the final Lodi MC night scrambles. Brandt, riding for Concord Yamaha, went into tonight's proceedings with his win sewed up while Hoffman and Johnson had to win their Mains and then si t back to see what else happened in other races as both the overall sportsman and mini trophies were to be contested by several riders. While the 15 year old Brandt was relaxed and settled for a second in the 125 Expert Main, Mitch Davidson, riding the Thiel Motors RM-125, took first and vaul ted in to the fmal Expert payoff spot ahead of Dave Bostrom, Kim Jorgensen, and David Burton who either did not race or did not place tonight. Second overall Expert money went to John Hlebo who won the 500 Main over Mike Van Lienden and by virtue of more second places took second over Jeff Eide who also won the 250 Main but lacked consistency points to edge out Hlebo, John , in addition to capping second place bucks, also vaulted back into number one Black Plate spot over Kim Jorgensen who did not place. Overall sportsman honors this season went down to the wire. Sal Hoffman of San Francisco did what was required of him by winning the combined 350-500 Junior Main over the Kiser Brothers Honda of Dennis Mulkey and Lo s Gatos racer Dave Lehman who celebrated Lodi closing night with his first Junior brass. Sal raced consistently all season - even after turning Junior abo ut midseason. . Scott Rasmussen of Davis won the 125 Junior Main an d o veral l trophy but fell one point short of Ho ffm an.
