back to third . Peterson made a banzai
charge on Ginther which landed hi m out
in the weeds. Word appeared to be
settling down to run a steady second
.when Ginther's Ossa lost its fire and
went dead on the jump. This left Word
uncontested for the win. Meanwhile,
Peterson had worked his way back up to
a close third behind Mark Ditwiller
(Bul).
The 500 class was a runaway victory
by J eff Campbell (Bul) and the real race
of that class was waged by
Yamaha-mounted Pete Simonso n and
Bultaco rider Louie Booth for second.
These two swapped positions several
times but at the checker it was
Simonson.
This may be the last race at this
track. J ac kso n County, which owns the
track, has appropriated a large su m of
mon ey to co nstruct a com p lete cycle
park. Rumo r has it the pl an s in clude a
half-mil e dirt oval, a mo to cr o ss co urse,
moto rcycle p lay areas and a d rag strip.
