NOBTB DeVaughn, Becker blitz Live Oak Summer Clearance Sale By Rex Backman LIV E OAK, CAL , AU G. 9 Mitc h DeVaughn and Delno Becker eac h won their respective classes, but in totally different ways. DeVaughn took the 125 Expert class with a two mota sweep wh ile Bec ker n abbed the 250 Expert class with come-from-behind rides in both motos. DeVau ghn (Yam) and Jim Sylva (Hus) di ced fo r number one until Mitch pulled out a slight advan tage . With the mota sligh tly over half completed, DeVau ghn started to lap the Junior riders on the course and was hung up in traffic letting Sylv a come to within a few feet of him. But DeVaughn worked the slower ri ders to his advantage and took the win with Sy lva del ayed by back riders in second. Sylv a led th e first several laps of mota two as DeVaughn and AI Hall (Han) t ra iled . Coming down the long back straight. Mitch took the lead as Sy lva was blocked by another rider and momentarily delayed. Randy Lash won the fir st mota in the 250 Expert class with ease as he outdistanced his peers. Gary Cooper took second, riding a strong race wh ile holding off the charges of Mi ke Marshall, Demo Becker and Jon Woo at different stages o f the race. Third went to Delno Becker as he worked his way up through t he field from seventh place at the start. "Boy. did that make me mad. that's why I rode so hard," replied Becker after his second mota ride which saw him go from dead las t to take the win in the final 25 0 Expert mota . Mike Marshall led with Randy Lash and Gary Morris trailing as Jon Woo and Becker collided in the back portio n of the track. Marshall (G-A) p ulle d away fr om the riders as Lash fell which gave second to Gary Morris (Hon) trailed by Gary Coop er. Becker was o n the gas and catching riders every lap as he soo n was on the tails of Morris an d Coop er. Second thro ugh fourth pl ace rider s were separated by only a-couple o f seconds. Becker got by both Cooper and Morris in t he tight corners and wa s set in second with o nly a few laps le ft in the mota. Mike Marshall had the lead to himself for the entire mo ta but fell just 10 feet before the wh ite flag. The first mota in the 125 Junior class had to have been one of the best all year as fo ur riders separated by less than two or three bike lengths battled fo r positions one to four. Rich Paris took the win ju st inches ahead of Jim Carpenter; Dave Coupe and Dave Sexton. At the end of the evening three riders, Coupe. Sexton and J im Fisk were all tied for second place . Fisk got the better placing and also the trophy. • Results in Results Section. The 60cc Main was dominated by Randy Hipdon. After winning the heat he came back to take the Main but hotly contesting him was y o ung Ronnie Troye but his little Mr. 50 j ust couldn't catch up.
