It's that "Magoo" kid again, winning at T-Car on his 125 Mono. Check all the duct tape on his cantilever swingarm.

Burton, Eide gain
ground at Lodi
By Ann Carr
LOm, CAL. , AUGUST I
Action continued intense at the
Lodi Cycle Bowl tonight as a
smooth, wide blue groove allowed
racers to "get it on" in most
classes . Expert racers jeff Eide and Dave
Burton both gained ground on point
leader Steve Brandt, now hampered by a
broken left wrist suffered in a spill at
the tree tum last week.
The 500 Expert class is much
depleted these days as the hot valley
weather takes its toll on some, injuries
plague others, and fatigue keeps some at
home.
Meanwhile the 250 ranks in all
classes continue to provide thrills as
many top riders emerge from this engine
size. BP No. 15,jeff Eide, took his third
win in four races tonight to not only
move into high point contention but
also into contention for District 36
black plate h onors. Second in the 250
Main was part of the jorgy's Can-Am
team, Ken j ac kson , who pressured Eide
the entire race but could not force a
mistake or make a !?ass. Third was
johnny Pittman (H-D) who inherited
third when an over-eager Red Needham
crashed in the pit turn.
Other 250 action saw junior Mark
Rizzuto nail down the Main and a high
point trophy at the same time. Mark won
easily as Steve Nicholas and Robert
Stockdale battled for second with the
jorgy Can-Am coming ou t ahead. The
250 Novice Main noted a first win for
Lodi club member Larry Wilson who
tolerances and higher test springs than
others on the market.
during the first two laps . Kim fell in the
second lap and broke his collarbone.
Sam Penrod took second place which
overcame a restart to take a wire-to-wire
an Expert.
Dan Lawson rode his Husky to an
overall win in 250 Novice after being
temporarily disqualified for jumping the
light.
Conrad Stitser (Hus) rode his third
race as a junior and took home rust in
the 250 junior class. This proved the
District was righ t in moving Conrad up
six weeks ago. Mike Cole was the top
money man of the day in the Semi Pro
classes as he took a second in 250
Expert and a third in 125 Expert.

Mini action saw no relief in the
intense high point battle. Mike johnson
and Shawn Callahan remained
deadlocked for top honors as both
easily won the 60 and Open classes
respectively. Fred Merkel moved back
in to contention wi th a second in the 80
Expert Main. Fred must wonder what it
takes to beat flying Rick Ryan who
came back from a spill at the tree turn
in the heat to capture his fifth Main in a
row.

closer. Best of all, the entire course was
right in front of the grandstand. The 7/8
mile kidney-shaped road course brought
the action practically into the
spectators' laps in the tight infield
section, and then swept out onto the
short back straight at speeds of 10o-plus
MPH.
