Denny Aguirre was a solid second, his 3 50 cc Kawasaki no match for Dorothy 's big machine. Dorothy's r acin g .team ma te, Don Frauenberger, has made winning a habit on the Corona half-mile and it was no different Wednesday as he jumped into the lead and never looked back. Second place Doug Hannon tried hard, but couldn ' t fmd Don's line. Dave Lujan pulled a slickie in the Op en Expert short track that took him from' th ird to first in one lap. Dave mad e his move between turns three and four and caught everybody with their socks down. Artie Nan y . was so surprised he dropped from first to third and Vince Mead was right th ere to take over second. Bob Selvy has found a home in the winner's circle as he won th e 100cc Novice short track over Rick Marckstadt and Bill Vaughn. On August first Bobby Smallwood took home top honors in both the 25 0 and Open Expert classes at Manzanita Speedway. Five minutes before the gate was to drop, a black chauffeured limo pulled into the starting are a and out ju mpe d Tim Lunde and Jim Domann (Hon). They were ready to ra ce ! J eff Bunn (Hon) put in a go od night's work, finishing second overal l and ch asin g Lunde drastically in moto three. Last weeks 125 overall winner, Joe Plan te (Hon) had to settle for th ir d overall th is week. Plante was having trouble getting through the tr affic. Lunde wen t on to win the overall in th e standings to ba ck up his titl e as the fourth winningest rider in CMC history. A new face showed up on th e 250 grid. Fran k Fitz gerald (Mai) led two of the th ree m otos o f the night, but this was not goo d enough. Bill Ru bly (C-A) was the big dollar winner with , a one -two-one tally. J e ff Jenn ings (Bul) smoked everyone in moto two, but crashed on th e start of round one and tum bled com ing out o f a fast tum in the nightcap event. Sweet then came ba ck and too k second roun d honors. While leading the final race , Sweet crashed and . h ad to pass the entire pack to finish second. He was still able to take the overall with Hughes and Michele Williams (Yam) in the runner-up positio n. Th e 125 Beginner class was qui ck, and th e field of riders was large . Mo to one had Ron Sportel (Hon) lea ding for tw o an d a half laps , bu t almo st lost it when he lowsided.
