The morning started out with the 500 Pros getting underway . Jon Derhammer (Mai) got the hole shot with Tommy Croft (Hon) right behind. Bill Rubly (Mai) was third off the line, but faded back as Bob Grossi (Suz) worked his way into third. Luke Messer (Mai) moved in to fourth pushing Rubly back to fifth. Croft and Durhammer diced it out and by the fourth lap, Tommy had the lead and the win with Durharnrner in second place. The second 500 Pro saw Tommy Croft getting the hole shot and an early lead. Bob Grossi started out in second with Luke Messer in third. Bill Rubly decided to get in gear, passed Grossi and Messer to end up in second place following winner Tommy across the line. The 250 Pros took off an d Jeff Jennings (Bul) came th rough the first co mer out in fr ont wi th To mmy Cro ft in second. Croft and Jennings diced it out, with Tommy taking the win over Jennings and Ray Topham (Bu l) . The final 250 Pro race was where Croft's luck ran out. He got off to a poo r start and J ennings got the hole shot. Bob Hannah (Suz) was in second and got by Jennings to take the lead. At the finish Danny LaPorte (Fra) ended up in second with Hannah taking the win and Bob Elliot (Hus) working his way up to a very respectable third. -Tomrny Croft was hot to trot after his first two Pro wins and was fourth at the start of the 125 Pros. Tim Lunde (FMF) got the h ole shot with Gary Denton (Ho n) hot on his tail . The second la£ saw a very hot Danny LaPorte (Fra) on Lunde's tail with Tommy Croft right behind. LaPorte passed Lunde and Croft was not to be left behind. Marty Moates (Hon) worked his way up to fourth place, zapped Lunde and LaPorte and was running in second place by the sixth lap . The race ended up with Croft taking the win and LaPorte getting by Moates to take second. The final 125 Pro race was Marty Moates' at the start, as he got the hole shot with Don Bongiorno (Hon) not far behind. Dan LaPorte turned on the gas and passed everyone for the win. • Steams strikes again By Jon Havt , CHULA VISTA, CAL., AUG. 6 £1 Cajon's Mike Steams (Mon) has put on some good shows at Southbay, but tonight was one to remember. The 250 Pros took off with Steams in the lead followed by Randy Bum (Yam). Steams stretched a out and wo n for the first mota . The ., t second ro und was a close repeat o f t he first wi th Steams taking the overa ll win fIl for the night. " As the night went o n, so did the 500 ) Pros. Kenny Forst was on a new Suzuki rlJ 400 and for the first time out Ken 's I perfonnance was not too shabby. He got the holeshot in the first mota with Mike McGowan (CZ) working his way up from the back to a healthy second place right on Frost 's tail. The last 500 Pro mota was instant replay, with Frost taking the win and McGowan right Tommy Croft starte d out very stro ng with wins in all th ree Pro classes and then fini she d up the day with overall in th e 500 class.
