1975 250cc National Champion,
Suzuki's Tony DiStefano, and
125cc National Number One,
Marty Smith from Honda, both
lived up to their employers' high.
est expectations taking the two
top positions at the Delta InterAMA and 125cc National motocross.
For DiStefano it was an afternoon of
warding off persistent challenges from
M aico rider Steve Stackable and
Yamaha's 500cc National Champ
Jimmy Weinert.
Zdenek Velky, the sole European in
this year's Inter-AMA circus . since his
CZ teammate Hamerschniid crashed out
of the program in the opening round,
did not finish. FoIlowing a lackluster
first moto performance, Velky dropped
out, reportedly due to illness caused by
Mickey Boone scored a high flying fourth 125. It's cooler up there.

taking in too much Ohio sun on
Saturday. "He did not realize the sun
would hurt him. In Czecho it rains a
lot," his mechanic offered.
In contrast to Tony D's hard-earned
win , Smith once again made the
difficult look easy as he rocketed off
the line and left the other 125cc
contenders scrapping over second place.
125cc National
FoIlowing practice, which formed
the wet clay Delta circuit into a series of
hard, tall berms, Randy Richardson put
his name on top of the first 125cc
qualifying moto. The second round saw
Tommy Croft and Rick O'Brien surge
away from the pack with Croft taking
the win.
A pair of red-frame. Hondas, Smith's
and Croft's, headed the first moto
stampede around the fast downhill
sweeper and through the tight series of
esses, By the end of the fifth lap , Marty
had established a six second lead over
Croft, and was already safely into a
typical Smith smokeaway victory.
Tim Hart completed the first lap in
sixth place, but quickly cut through the

Ashworth trio to takeover third behind
Croft.
Nils Nilsson held sixth at the five-lap
mark after starting ninth and continued
methodically to pick off riders on his
way to a fourth by the moto's end.
Near halfway', Hart worked his
Yamaha Monocross past Croft's Honda,
putting the yeIlow and black brand on
second at the flag.
Smi th flew on , drawing loud sighs of
appreciation
from
the
obviously-impressed crowd, to a decisive
first round win. Hart headed Croft,
Nilsson, Gary WISe and Mickey Boone
when the 4o-minute-plus-two-Iap moto
ended.
