Jimmy Ellis fo llowed Marty Sm ith home in both motos.
Stappleton, Don Goss, after a hard fall
on the hill, finally got going and
recaptured enough positions to finish
sixth. Tony Wynn's seventh was good
enough to vault the friendly Arkansas
rider into sixth overall .
Smith, with an almost h alf a track
advantage (about 53 seconds) , had
passed all but the top four finishers o n
his way to victory.
Michigan riders made the Support
class pay with Bultaco rider Robert
Rutten sweeping both motos over
Yamaha mounted Shane Hruska an d the
Montesa of John Deemer. The use of
the word pay was intentional as all three
riders were post entries and the $31 fee
tak es a lo t out of the old walle t if you
don't finish well .
Can -Am riders Ted Foltz and J ack
Maye r took the fourth and fifth overall
positions.
Jim Slife held a short lead in t he
opening Support m o t o before Rutten
and Hruska zapped by with the pair
holding position to the finish and John
Deemer co m ing up to take third by the
flag.
In the second moto Hruska held the
lead until Rutter passed hi m in the
sta rt /fin ish area as Hruska slowed to get
a quick splashing. Again the pair
circulated to the flag in position with
Ted Foltz, Deemer and Kevin Smith
rounding out the top five.
