plat es! You see, last year I was th e Powder Pu ff Steward, and go t really involved with ho w th e desert girls wer e doing. No w that I'm not, it 's so frus tr at ing no t to know who is doing what anymore ! I h ope you will try to include the girls mo re ! DEE GRA NG ER Women 's MX No . 12 Bum ps on th eir che sts? Oh, ahem. well. ah sorry abo ut that. . '. Editor RE: AB475, McGill's Cycle Park Hey, you guys goofed Hey, how come there was no coverage of the Women and Sen iors race at the Viewfinders Grand Prix? In case you had trouble telling us apart, the girls were the ones with bumps on their chests and on e-or-two-digit GP numbers ! ' All kidding aside , this was the first time we had gone the full two hours, and I'm certain that I am not th e only one who was disappointed. Your en t ire coverage was of a lower caliber than last , year as well. While I'm at it, I've been really bummed that there is no longer any report on the desert girls at 0-37 ra ces. They are not hard to pick out since they're the only ones with ye llow Our green stickie money has been appropriated fo r the p ur ch ase of McGill's Cycle Park. it now needs the appro val of Sacramento County. After approval, O RV people in Sacto Co . will own 4 35 acre s at a cos t o f $292,500 . You can stop jumping up and down now as this park will no t be free, they 're into our pockets agai n. According to Mr. Hawkins of Parks and Recreation a fee is needed for security (fenc e and security men), improvements, etc. We informed Mr. Hawkins that few people use McGiII's now and it is free, his reply , the fewer the number the higher th e fee , etc. The Coun ty and th e State can 'I decide who will run this park. The legislative analyst of 3/15/75 conc erni n g Z'Berg's AB 475 bill contains the following: .. Fiscal effect: Revenue; Probable nominal local revenues from users fees ." It is difficult to remain optimistic about McGiIls Park when Mr. Hawkins tells us about hiring experts for this and experts for that, making lakes, campgrounds, parking facilities , will there be any room to ride? Mr. Collins, also of Parks and Recreation indicates an annual operating cost of $1 50 ,0 00 . We are also going to be charged to ride on land that ORV people own in the first place. Bure aucracy is alive and well in Sacto County. DAVE 8< LESLIE DAVIS Sacramento. Cali f. Sharon aayton, Publisher Robert 1.. No r Velle, General Manager Edna Mewton, Secretary to Publisher. St rikes again The Vie wfi nde rs M.C. rea lly put it all together with a tw o-day Grand Prix of top quality r acin g. They chose a sa fe . simple. st ar t in g pro cedure wi th a good banner run before t he co urse narrowed down. Th e race co urse it sel f was ab ou t 5 miles long, but h ad eve rything to test a ride rs skill. - Th e pits were well located. and as safe as any I h ave see n . Even cro wd con t ro l was be tte r than co uld be expected. I don 't kn ow all th e Viewfinders, but I saw a lot of th em working hard both days. Many were putt ing fo rth th e extra effort necessary to make a race go smooth . It isn't often you spend two days at a ra ce without hearing a single co mplaint. A good ra ce like this deserve d to ha ve a few more entries. Lo o king fo rward to a bigger, better, Viewfi nde rs Grand Prix next year. TH E PHANTOM DUCK O F THE DESERT Just a note of thanks I wo uld like to than k t he rider th at gave up his race to get help when I ate a big one an d broke my leg at the Tehachapi Prison GP. If it was n't for him J might still be lyi ng in th e middle of th at field . Also J would like to than k th e SRA promoters an d the tw o Tri- County Ambulance drivers fo r such prompt actio n in ge tting me off th e co ur se an d to the hospital so fast . It's good to kn o w that the re are some bikers th at care mo re ab o u t fello w riders than trophies. Than ks a mill ion. MARK McGOWAN No. 436 Mercy Hospi tal Bakersfield, Calif. More " notes of th ank s" Just a few lines of thanks to one hell of a guy, Larry Langley. Besides being a class enduro rider and staff writer he is really " peo ple ." On April 13th at the Cal City Gringo I was the mentioned "poor soul " that Larry witnessed crashing on the big downhill, and so noted in his article. What Larry did not mention was that he also hauled my poor broken bod out, buddy up. Before he would let me go he made sure I received first aid for my broken hand and wouldn't even take so much as a beer for his kindness. All he said was, "next time it could be me." All I can say is "Thanks." MlKE ·McRAVEN Anaheim Hi-Siders Write us a letter Abou t th at lot at th e end of the block I'm writing to Mrs. Darryll Berg about her letter in your .voices of the West on June 10. I just want to let her know that in her letter she said her husband took her son in the field at the end of the street. That mean s she did not get all the dust and noise. I have seen and heard this over and over. I live at th e end o f the street in a different city than Mrs. Berg, but we get kids having fun in the field, but it starts with on e kid and in half an hour, there are 20 kids and cy cle s out t here, now that m akes a lot of dust and noise. Now if they wan t to do the right thing don 't have an ar gument with the neighbor woman, she might have a baby she just go t to sleep or she m ight be sic . and does not want to hear a cycle ove and ove r an d over go ing in circles in the fiel d .
