Th e dust was kept down enough to be able to see th e " whoop-de-d oo s" before hitting them, and that tri cky first t urn h ad been modified. Halfway through the second day of racing the program was delayed wh en promoter-referee Fred Dion and many of the riders and spectators grabbed shovels and left th e rac e to assist in putting out a nearby brush fire . All Juniors and Intermediates, 125, 250 and Op en were eligible to win the big prizes. ( First prize: 125 Yamaha Monoshock, second: Custom leathers, th ird: High Point boots, fourth : Trelleborg tire, fifth: Torco products.) All they had to do was end up the two days and four motos with the smallest nu mber of total points ! Spe ncer FREMON T, CA L. , MAY 21 Sco tt Pearson and the SK Cycles Bult aco stomped all co me rs at the Wedn esd ay night short track and took an I S-point advan tage in the II 250 Junior were in a three-way tie for the grand prize with four firsts each. The tie was broken by counting laps led totals, giving Rohrer the bike but resulting in another tie for second prize. This one was broken by counting laps led in the last moto . Hansen got the leathers and Anderson the boots. The lAM Regional Championship, run concurrently with the CMC National for the two days, was not exactly over-run with entrants. Many of the riders did not want to spoil their chances at the big prizes by subjecting their bikes to the additional four motos, The 100 Junior, 125 Intermediate, and 250 Junior Schoolboy classes were run together, starting in waves. The "big" race on both days was the 250 Expert. MacDannald is 'n o t a hole shot man. He was in from third to eighth position going into the turn each time, but managed to whiz by those in front of him, in all but one moto when he could not get by Kevin Henry (BuI). Henry had a third and a second place finish the first day, then topped that off with a first and third on the second day to give him second money in the class . Third place cash went to Dave Longcor (Hus) for his second, seven t h, third and second finishes. The four 250 Expert motos were great crowd pleasers, full of action .and place swapping. The 125 Experts didn't do too badly at crowd pleasing either. Local favorite, Danny (Magoo) Chandler (Hon), led the first moto all the way from hole shot to checkered flag. The second moto was another hole shot to start with but a crash put him back to nearly last. Before that race was over he had worked his way back to fourth and went into the second day and the third moto with five points. The third moto proved to be his downfall. A series of tough breaks and he was down two laps for a 16 th place finish in that one, and then for a comeback in the fourth moto another first. Magoo ended up with third money for his efforts. First wen t to Kevin Henry (Bul ) who finished second the first time out, working up from a bad start. Jim Lesniewski (Hon) led the second moto until the fifth lap when he crashed and Henry moved in for the win. Henry followed up the second day with a third and a second for eight total points. Second overall for 12 points went to Pat Wilson who ran at the front of the pack but not quite close enough to first in all four motos with a fifth, a second, a
