RASH OF BAD LUCK
The Friday before Sunday's race,
Ken Roczen announced that he
had taken a blood test the previ-
ous Sunday which came back
positive for shingles, a virus that
is known for its painful rashes.
This was bad news for Roczen
who was already dealing with a
respiratory issue since the end of
last year. But somehow, he man-
aged to turn it all into a positive
Sunday. "[We noticed] a red mark
on my tailbone," Roczen said
after Sunday's win. "[It] wasn't
that big, not huge, but starting to
blister. As soon as it started, Dr.
Bodnar put me on some medica-
tion and caught it right away. I felt
lethargic. Felt tired. It [the rash]
didn't hurt too much, only when
I touched it or something, but it
wasn't too much pain, because
we caught it super soon, now it's
starting to go away."

Malcolm Stewart suffered a
tough DNF Wednesday when his
footpeg sheared off his bike. His
Smartop/Bullfrog Spas/Moto-
concepts Honda Team suspect
that he landed on a rock which
caused the damage. Stewart
bounced back with a fifth Sunday,
matching a season high. Justin
Barcia also DNF'd Wednesday
after crashing spectacularly,
damaging his bike. That cost him
fourth in the point standings, giv-
ing way to Jason Anderson (Rock-
star Energy Husqvarna), who
gave it right back to Barcia after
Briefly...
(Right) Eli Tomac was
forced to come from
behind both Wednesday
and Sunday. He went
from 12th to third
Wednesday and seventh
to third Sunday. "I was
pushing the first half
and was creeping up
on the first two there
[but] it wasn't enough,"
Tomac said of Sunday's
race. "I hit a few lappers
and didn't get through
them really clean, and
[Roczen and Webb]
both kind of broke away
a little bit. At that point
it wasn't worth the
push for me." A win this
Wednesday will assure
him his first 450SX title.
