IN THE WIND P36 Chris Carr beat Jared Mees in the first of three races in the final, but Mees came back to win races two and three. PHOTO: WILLY BROWNING Mees Outduels Carr In Inaugural Flattrack FITE Klub A fter the successful Moto FITE Klub Pay-Per-View event in May, plans were quickly put into place to create the Flattrack FITE Klub. Orga- nizers rounded up some of the cur- rent stars of American Flat Track to race against some of the legends of the sport. Jared Mees, Bryan Smith, Sammy Halbert, Ryan Sipes, Scott Parker, Jay Springsteen, Joe Kopp and Chris Carr faced off in several rounds of match races on vintage Bultaco 2-stroke motorcycles. The event took place in Pennsylvania and also benefitted the Rookies Class of '79 charity with a lot of memorabilia being auctioned off. Round One In the first match of round one, Chris Carr went head-to-head with Scott Parker, with Carr winning two of the three races. Jared Mees knocked out Sammy Halbert by taking two consecutive match wins over him, while Joe Kopp beat out Jay Springsteen to advance to the next round. Bryan Smith and Ryan Sipes had to go all three rounds, but ultimately it was Smith who would advance to the next bracket. Round Two Carr faced off against Kopp in the first match of round two, and Carr lost the first match, but came back strong to win the next two and secure his spot in the main event. Mees and Smith each nabbed a win in their match, but in the third and final duel, Mees took the win, moving on to the main to face Carr. Smith then squared off with Kopp for third place, which went to Smith. Final The final round was a showdown between Carr and Mees. In the first of three races, Carr took the win. Mees' bike was having some issues while they were battling for the lead, so he opted to switch bikes for the second race. Mees went on to claim the second match win, putting it all on the line for the third and final race. Once again, Mees gained the upper hand, and held on to take the inaugu- ral Flattrack FITE Klub belt. Support Races Halbert got a little revenge on the group by winning the Scott Parker challenge race, taking the win over Smith, Mees, Sipes and Parker. Fifteen-year-old Kody Kopp, son of Joe Kopp, outdueled Willy Brown- ing, Trevor Vines and Dan Gidian to win the Sunday Motors mini flat tracker event. Despite its relatively "low-budget" production quality, the Flattrack FITE Klub Pay-Per-View show is pretty en- tertaining with over two hours of rac- ing action. If you missed the original airing, it is still available on FITE TV for $19.99. Get the 2020 Flattrack FITE Klub racing here. CN 2020 Flattrack FITE Klub 1 1. Jared Mees 2. Chris Carr 3.
