In Expert co mpetition. Ridgecrest racer John Dial drove his 125 Yamaha to the winner's circle over local hotshoe Tyrone Brown. Steve Jackson powered his B and B Yamaha to the lead over Gale Tyler's YZ in 250 Amateur/Expert competition on the mile course run backward. Don Simonian's Yamaha screamed to first place for Lucerne Valley in Open Amateur/Expert competition while the real battle was between Apple Valley's Karl Wilson and Victorville's Mark Clayton. When the green flag fell for the third mo to it was Wilson and Clayton tied for second with Clayton's YZ grabbing the lead off the st art and holding it for seven laps. A tip of the helmet to newcomer Phillip laCroix of Lucerne Valley fo r his sportsmanship placing fourth aboard a screaming Suzuki in 125 Beginner competition. California City's Champ Jack Boone managed to drive his Yamaha to three firsts but not easi ly as hard driving Geoffrey Winkel pushed hi m every lap . • Res ults in Result s Section . Youth Expo '75 MX By K. Warner track reminded hi m o f the Arroyo Cycle Park course. Totally impressive In the 250 Intermedia te class was Ray McNeil o n his Gary Nelson tuned Ossa. This was his first ride on the new Ossa Phantom and he did very well . Organization of the event was good with everyone getting three 20 minute motos. The future of the track is unclear. Sandbaggers rule By Andi Gangewer RIVERSIDE. CAL.. MAY 4 The Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce with the help of CRC sponsored the first ever Motocross at Riverside Raceway. The first thing I noticed when entering the raceway was a sign reading "No riding in th e pits - push it. " The pit s were designed so that y ou pushed your bike d own hill to the starting line . When yo u finished racing. you pushed down hill to the pits. There was no dodging pit racers all day. The course was one and one-hal f miles of natural European type terrai n. It had fou r uphills and downhills, two super jumps. and one long straightaway. The course was 95 percent visible from the pits. The soil was soft and loamy and held the water well and it never packed down or got slippery. As t he day wore on, t he bikes bu ilt their own berms. 111e Minis started the compe ti tio n with Joey Ha milton on his new Monoshock Hon da taking the lead . Joey won t he first two m o tos wi th Lindley taking t he t hird. 11,e 250cc Intermedia tes and Experts ran together. with Expert Kevin Callaway charging to the lead in all th ree motos. lie looked very smooth on his :'Ionoshock Yamaha. Kevin said the ELSINORE, CAL.• MAY 3 The I\lini Beginners class turned out to be a carbon copy each moto. John Throne, a 13-year-old from Anza won all th ree races, but he was sandbagging. Ro bert Fly nn. a 12-year·old. took the second with Kevin Wagner bri nging in the third. There wasn't much co mpetition between any of the riders and they were aU pretty spread o ut th ro ugh all the m o tos . Our largest class of the evening was the 125 Novice with two heats. which ran to a nine man main eve nt. Do nald Acker was pressed hard by Larry Hedstrom and Tom Neider. These three hot shoes battled it out th ro ugh the whole race b ut Acker pulled out with the first place trop hy . Larry Hedstrom took a second place and another t rop hy . Tom Neider brought in the third p lace . Charlie Summers, a regular at Elsino re Raceway. proved why he's an Expert . li e and Danny Per kins sta rted on the j ump behind the Am at eur s in th e 125 Ama te ur/Expert cla ss. Su mme rs man euvered his super fast Y.Z. through the pack to take the lead in all t hr ee Donald Acker. who also mo tos. trophied in the Novice class. zipped his Honda in fo r the second.
