Hendr tri ed both the 1\" and " B" sections, having to tran sverse 52 sec ti o ns to co m p lete hot h classes. He wal ked o ff wi th t he "B" class with a 15 while taking third place in the " A " with a creditable 39 point effort. Co urage of the Day Award had to go to th e only girl th at en te re d , Ke lly Winga te, a sophomore from Willow Glenn High in San Jose. She received th e Powder Pu ff award , afte r banging he r bike on several sections. Ke lly recei ve d a big buss from Otampion Neil Belvoi r wh ich was a gasser, Neil had to chase Kell y a co up le times around th e awards table t o give her t he troph y. High school trials are really on th e upswin g with a high school division be ing held May 26 at Red Do g Canyon alo ng wi th t he Class A trials being put o n by th e Sacramento P.[ .T.S. Club. Hen ry is plann ing on two more next fall a t Murder's Gu lch and Frank Raines Park, t o he held in October and November. Th ese migh t well be the qualifiers fo r an all State Mee t to be held next No vem be r. Kevi n J ansen gave him a real chase in the first two races on a 125 Honda. Th e fin al race was led by Chuck Sun on a 360 Bul whi ch gave up at th e hal fway poin t leaving room at th e fro n t fo r Ron Sun on a 125 Su zuki for a co uple of laps before Burgett took com man d. The only Op en bike to su rvive all three motos was Vern Gabbert 's four stroke Honda. It was Bur gett and Yamaha all th e way in the first two 250 Pr o races but Bru ce Sel ander (Bul) really came alive in th e third moto to di ce it out with him . The lead changed several times bu t Selander wound up in f ro nt wh en it counted. Th ere was a T ur key class, t o o , fo r th e first tim e today . For the unin formed thi s is a clas s fo r any age , any bike size, any sex. It 's for riders wh o are ju st br ea kin g in to the racing game . Jeff Larson (Yam) and Te rry Handke (Hus ) batt led it out all day fo r the 2 50 Junior brass, Each h ad a win and a second behind him wh en Larson took the de cis ive th ird rnoto win. Dick Burgett (Bul) proved it 's a family talent by ta king three wins in th e Open Junior class. Dick is Rick's fa t her. A few sp rin kles creat ed a skittery coatin g off and on b ut th e track drains well so no h uge mud holes developed. • Results in Results Section. Baptizing Seattle Int'l. Raceway MX KE NT , WASH ., MAY 7 Steve Nolen , Bob Bo ock, and Duane Zeigler made their own little bit o f history as th ey be cam e the first Pro winners on Seattle In ternational Raceway 's new $2 5, 0 00 motocross track. Nolen, o f Auburn, took the first 125 Pro moto, holding off a hard-charging Gary Racca. Gary Potts, briefly in the chase at the beginnin g faded to thi rd in the moto. Potts came bac k in the second moto, however, taking his Suzuki to a stron g win after No len was held up for two laps by a slo wer rider. No len was de clared the overall winner , wit h Potts second and Ra cca, who was third in the second moto after a ba d st ar t , was third o verall. Boock t o o k th e 2 50 Pro class d espite multiple problems in th e first moto. Ch arl es Strayer (Mo n ) won the fi rst m ota, with Dave Bachm eir 's Penton in fron t o f Booc k's monoshock Yamah a. Boo ck ca me back in th e seco n d moto , however, winning by over a half of a lap, to ta ke th e o verall win. Bachmeir was again second in the mo t o and th e o verall. with Tro y Luchini in th ird. Th e Op en bi kes sh ar ed th e t rac k wi th the 250s, an d Duan e Zei gle r to o k his first Pro win , ru nnin g t hi rd in th e first m o t o an d winning the second. Eugene Tom (l\lai ) was t he e asy wi n ne r o f th e first m ot o, wi th Rich ard J ohn son second and Zeigler th ird. Zei gler took a well -earned win in the second moto , 27
