But there were a lot of contingencies, and they wen: all d onated as trophies. A1lenn IRVINE , CAL. , MAY 11 Harry Klinzmann turned the Mother's Day CMC road race in to a Harry Klinz mann be nefit affair , winning three highly-competitive GP clas ses with ease. He starte d off by running away wit h 250 GP, while ' George Roche, build er of the highl y-effective G. R.I.P. internal-stinger chambers, and Mike Clark we nt back-and-forth for second. Harry kept gain in g ground. whil e Clark and Roche swap ped p laces. At th e b eginning of the last lap , Roche led with Clark charging. Roche dialed it on an d p ulled away fo r second. Switching to his Yamaha TZ 3 50, Harry me t Bob Endicott 's Ac ti o n Fours production -b ike-turned-GP Kawasaki Z-l. KIinzmann 's bike made up for re lative lack of p owe r with better handling, less weight and n o wiggles. Endicott's motorcycle wobbled so badly when he shut off for Tum On e t ha t spectators backed away from the pit wall, an ticipating a crash that never came. What did come to pass was Harry taking the lead and losing the lead several times on the first few laps . Finally, with Endic ott a bit hung up on his collector in th e chicane, and a bit sideways as a result, Harry picked up ti me for good. "You can't h old that kin d o f a pace after five or six laps on t hat big a bike. " explained Endicott. "That thing was a ro cket ," Harry said later.
