T he Raceway is hig h above town, in an area that co uld be golf co urse m aterial. But there rac ers use it for the best purpose m otocross. Th e natural ter rain t rack was wet and slic k all day - lots o f 180 de gre e tu rn abo uts . Muddy, muddy, muddy. The Pro classes too k to th e co urse first to ge t it wo r ked o ut a lit tle fo r th e Minis. The 25 0 was domina te d by Craig Bosler (Hus ) and Bruce Hill (Yam) with two solid o ne-t wo p osit ion s both m otos. The Open cl ass ra n with th em with winner Rich Binc kley (Yam) sco ring a first and th ird. Blaine Elledge (Hus) to ok the second m oto an d used his fifth in mo to on e to ge t secon d money. The Mini class was the prize of the day . Op en Expert first pl ace hon ors (and m on ey ) went to John Kent (Bu!) who worked up to a secon d pl ace fin ish in the first rnoto, beh ind Dan Shoo k (Hus) wh o had ta ken ove r th e lead when Buzz Presser (Mai) crash ed in th e fo urt h lap . Kent then p ic ked up a fo ur th in the nex t m oto t o give him th e win for th e day 's racing. Press er, finishin g sixth afte r his crash, made a comeback winning th e secon d moto and second overa ll. Eric Harvey (:'> Iai ) was the to p Expert in the 250 class. He started ou t the first moto in second place and h eld it all th e way to th e finish. After a ba d st ar t in th e second roun d he m oved up an d up all the way to first pl ace in four laps and stayed there th e rest of the race. Second place m on ey went to Flo yd Davi s (BuI ) who worked up to a fourth place finish in the firs t m oto and held second all the way in th e n ext. Alex J orgenson (Can-Am) grabbed the win in moto one bu t reco vered from his problems early in the sec ond m oto too lat e to m ake it up to any be tt er than sixth at th e chec kere d flag. However, he still mad e third pay for his effo rts. Th er e was no doubt abo ut the " innin g 125 Expe rt! It was Pat Wilson all th e way, rid ing his Honda to a clean sweep in bo th m otos. Don Murphy (Suz] go l cl ose to Wilson earl y in the first moto (fini shing sec o n d ) but his chan ces were sp oiled by m echanical problems a fter he led two laps o f th e seeo n d round. 'A sp ec tac ular three bike pile-up on the sta rt alm os t spoiled the Pee Wees ' (u nder seven ye ars o ld) firs t moto, But in the fashion of the true racer, they decided to give it another whirl! The restart saw them off and running with Aaron Hill taking an early lead a nd holding it followed by Freddy Dion , Dennis Schmidt and Jamie Wooten, all on Hondas. Th e second moto was a re-run o f th e first with th e exception o f the preliminary cras h . _ Results in Results Sectio n. three hours , beating the curfew man by some 15 minutes. It took all the cooperation in th e world to do it, but the show was absolute dynamite. With 3 i signed up for 360 Expert. the three heats would only take the first fo ur riders. Pearson took a second to Fenn Pervier while Nick Nazzisi beat out Chris Hudson. In the third h eat McCaul be at out Nevada's Manuel Crummett and Scott Brelsford. This m ade fo r quite a program when Pearson did his usual h ole shot number. It wasn 't to be a one-sided show as both Nazzisi and Crummett immediately put on the pressure. It was allover for Naz zisi as on th e second lap the fire wen t out down below and he h ad Chris Hudson up his tailpipe, literally , going down the front strai gh t, After the shuffle went through the number one comer Crummett was in second with McCaul comi n g from seventh, then taking second on the fo urt h lap . This procession ran the trac k for three laps with only McCaul putting on the pressure whi le Crummett dropped off just enough for Ken Dalla to catch up with Gary Orlando an d Brelsford in ho t pursuit. On th e las t trip around, McC aul put on the turbo an d passed the rookie Oass uC J unior. The two are now tied for th e hi gh p oint serie s which will most lik ely go to a semi-pro con figuratio n in th e summer. Doug Chandler an d Larry Krusemann ba t tl ed it out tooth and n ail in th e 80 Exp ert Main with Doug passing Lightning Larry one extra tim e for the win.
