A hal f lap la ter, Grossi got it on, slipping past Suzuki teammate DiStefano and putting the pressure on Savitski's fly in g Bultaco, On the next lap Billy found a new line through t he mudhole and took over the lead. Mean while, Stackable had been building momentum and came up to shut out Grossi on lap fou r. The first five pal ces all appeared to be likely prospects as they fought and either passed or got passed in the m udhole, Jimmy Weinert has started slowly, eleventh at the end of lap one, but was bulling th rough traffic in classic "Jam min ' Jimmy " style. Stackable enjoyed the lead fo r 2-3 Gro ssi lap s before "Sugar Bear" repassed big Steve in the mudhole, By this ti me Weinert had surged up into fo urth place behin d Savitski and Stac kable. Steve p robably felt J im my breathi ng down his neck because, in the next few lap s, the pair e dged by both Savitski and Grossi. Stackable led ; and J immy, in secon d, rea lize d th at he di dn't have to catch t he lon g tall Texan to ta ke ho me th e first place m on ey . At the flag it was St ackable , Wein ert, Grossi, DiStefano and Sernics. Savits ki, while on the las t lap and o nly two turns from the fini sh, slid into one of the big mud berms and got stuck. Joh n was so tired an d the bike so st uck that he was n 't ab le to pull it o ut . Luc kily , J o hn Ayers, blinded by m u d , cam e along, hit Savitski's rear wheel and knocked the Bultaco out! Savitski had held fifth before the incident and thanked Ayers for the boost that kept him from losin g more than two places. J immy Weinert 's 1-2 sco re topped Steve Stac kable's 3-1 in the overall standings. Team Suzuki followed with G:-~r: 1=3 :.~d Di~!efano's 7-4 placings. John Savitski took iiitn wii:; his 5-7 tally over Pierre Kars makers' 6-9 total. 125cc Support Jon Leak led a 1-2 victory by 125cc Yam ah as in the two Support class m o tos.
