What wi th the 'Horn being a non-sanctioned ru n this year, a lot of riders have mixed emotions about entering it. To ride something of this magnitude "for the fun of it" never seems to turn out that way, so Team Has-Been (George Clark, Bill Ocheltree, Frank Sherrill) has come up with an idea to provide an incentive for riding the 'Horn for kicks. Many enduros including Greenhorn have been ridden, an d won, without benefit of clock and speedometer. Of c o u r s e it took some pretty goo d bird-dogging of a timekeeper. As an experienced enduro rider, have you ever co nsidered the challenge of testing your sense o f time, distance and speed not only without clock and speedo, but without anyone else to bump-off? That's what the SOTP enduro is all about. In a nutshell, you enter the Greenhorn with two other riders as a regular team entry, eligible for all Greenhorn awards. In addition to the Greenhorn entry fees, each rider kicks $5 into a pot to see who can do best without clock or speedo. The pot is then split between t he best individual rider and the best team. The purse fo r this contest could get to be pretty sizeable, so we have m ade a few ru les to discourage anyone from letting greed get the best of them. We have made arrangements with PMC to handle the entries, and it sounds like fun to them too. Write fo r rules and entry info. Somebody besides a Tex~ has won a short track. Mike Kidd still being o n the sidelines kind of m oves everybody up one, though, doesn it ... ? BILL OCHELTREE 15024 Leadwell St. Van Nuys, Calif. (213) 785:8922 Scottish Trial in Dutch I am writing in resp o nse to the res ults of the April 6, ATA/SDTR Scottish Trial at Barona. When it began rai ning Richard Widick, SDTR preside nt, decided to let everyone turn in their loop cards an d get the m punched wi th "tens" (rather than finishing the last loop) and scored the riders accordingly. I feel this was wrong because many riders wh o actually fini shed the trial were disqualified on a time vio lation. Then, after the results had been out two' weeks, they decided to disqualify everyone who didn't finish the required three loops. One mistake is un derstan dable , but to correct one mista ke with another is not. DON BUXTON San Diego, Calif. Well info rmed 4 <.;oPYri ght l. y cl ~ N~W5 , Inc . 19 75.
